buy my HTS piece by piece. I already have a pair of tsi 300 towers coming, and plan on buying an onkyo tx-sr606. I would really like a 7.1 system now, and was thinking of also buying the rm6750 to give me all the neccesary speakers to complete my 7.1. I bought the towers mainly for music, I'm putting in a small bedroom. Or should I buy a center channel and/or sub now and other speakers later. The problem is I have is i only have about 400 to spend on speakers, and don't know when i'll have more money to complete the TSi system. I figure turn up the towers during music, and turn up sats during movie.
Or is this a bad mismatch?

Some advice (to make your decision even harder)...
1) Buy a receiver with pre-outs. I don't think the 606 has it. It will help with upgrading later on.
2) If you have a small to medium sized room then 5.1 might be good enough. If you can't place the speakers for 7.1 then it may actually sound worse.
3) The center channel is the most important speaker in a HT setup. Don't go cheap on it.
4) For a HT setup and/or music setup... the choice of speakers is practically endless. You can spend little or a lot of money depending on how bad your case of upgraditis is.
5) Personally I would say get the sub or satellites last. However, this is a personal decision.
6) If you are limited on funds then buy used or from PolkDirect on Ebay.

ChargerMetal welcome to CP. Here is my $.02 for what it's worth. Follow maximillian's advice, there is a lot of sound logic in it. I would take the $400 and spend it on a good center and surrounds and skip the rears and sub for now. There is a CSi-A4 on the Polk Direct site for $150 and if aesthetics are of no concern there are some white FXi3 and FXi-A4 both at $199. Or if the color or dipole speakers is a problem, Newegg has the TSi 200 for $229 which is not too bad. Or see if you can find a good price on some used RTi A3.

Thanks guys! Just trying to see if I could skate by with a speaker package. I did this same thing last year with the system in my truck and ended up spending close to $2000, but now that it's done I'm glad I went with quality. I'm sure the same will happen with my HT setup.Polk Tsi 300 towers

One more thing. Is there any 5.1 receivers that upconvert to HD? That's why I want the 606 it upconverts all video to 1080i.Polk Tsi 300 towers

Most manufacturers are only doing 5.1 receivers for their low end entry level stuff (ie stuff not worth keeping). You'll be doing yourself a favor by waiting until you have a little more dough to spend and getting a solid 7.1 avr with pre outs for future upgrades, at least 3 hdmi inputs, and it should also have your upconversion. You want it as future proof as possible.
+1 on what the guys were saying about getting a good center. You will regret it if you don't. And as nice as surround is, in a small bedroom you will be happier with a quality 3.1 arrangement (for the time being at least), then you would with a sub par 5.1 setup. IMHO absolutly no need at all for 7.1 in a small bedroom."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
