Okay so I downloaded the demo in preparation for this weeks release. What a crazy trip that was. A few things to note...

1) Alma is a ****, I hate that freaky **** ****. But the scare factor has been ramped up IMHO. Some very, very intense sequences.

2) Weapons seem to be the same, with the addition of a .50 Cal Sniper rifle, new rocket launcher, and some weird **** electrical gun. I did not see the Nail gun, and I will be highly disappointed if it is not brought back. Nothing is more satisfying than nailing your enemy to the wall.

3) The mech warrior part was a nice surprise. Not sure if I totally like it, but I had fun in it, so we will see in the final version....jury is still out on that for me.

4) Graphics....hmmmm. Not sold on this. Had a cartoony shine to it, with a Gears of War 2 bloodiness look to it. I swear they took the blood from Gears 2 and implemented it here. Seriously, it looked much more real in the first one. I am just not sure about this. I think it was a step back. But it's the Demo...so who knows.

5) Sound was amazing. Action was intense. Looking forward to the game.

Only a couple days away, I am pumped for this one to say the least. Trailers are phenomenal, especially the launch trailer.

Honestly I enjoyed FEAR but didn't love it. Probably because I played it a few years after it was released so it wasn't as groundbreaking then. This game has fixed everything I didn't like about the first, more variety in locations, more variety in enemies, more variety in gameplay, more scares, etc. Im pumped.

It is violent. I found the original FEAR to be a great game. Some different weapons, great AI, and despite it being run and gun it was very difficult on even normal settings.

I felt the new one was on the same level. But the AI is a bit smarter.

Played the demo, not impressed. The controls are off to me. It just feels kinda kludgy compared to something like CoD4. Plus, there's just something about the walking animation that makes it feel like you're just pushing a camera through the world instead of actually looking out of someone's eyes (which was a problem in FEAR as well).

It looks like they've got some of the jump scares down pat, but the overall mood is just not there for me. The quick transitions between regular old shooting and the creepy stuff don't really do much to build any tension. Perhaps it's just because I was spoiled by Dead Space - a game that absolutely NAILED the mood of a good horror tale. By comparison, FEAR 2 seems anemic. Hell, even by comparison to Condemned 2, which wasn't all that great, this just looks like they're phoning it in.

But at least it looks like they've gotten away from every level looking like a generic corporate office building.
