I see the LSi25's on Polk direct for $999 buy it now, would these make for a great 2 channel setup? or would some of you consider something else within the $1000 range maybe some classic stuff that you could get even cheaper.
was thinking if i got the speakers sometime soon i could start looking at a pre/amp and mono block amps,and/or just a amp i would be looking at finding used stuff to piece together as i go along.been reading some of the other post's here, and some of you guys really got me wanting to go this direction for my living room, and with my tax refund coming im thinking of starting to piece somethings together. when i start looking at the pre/amp,i will be bugging you guys on what would be a good start.maybe even a tube amp:D
i don't know yet.seeing Mike's setup really got the bug going. Thanks Mike:p
Thanks in advance for any input.

Get a good source,, vintage polks a Dodd ELP(tubed pre), a carver amp, signal cables all around,, and you'll have a killer setup for 2 channel for less the 2k.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I'd go with some vintage Polks myself. They can be had for much less than a thousand dollars. You could get some vintage Monitors for anywhere from 100-300 dollars or so depending on which model...and there are some very nice SDA's you could get in the 500ish range.
I've got a pair of Monitor 7A's that I use for my two channel listening...and they're phenomenal. I got mine for 20 bucks! which was an incredibly good deal, but they usually go for around 100-200. Excellent speakers though.
With the price range you're in though...maybe look into some SDA's. You could get something that would be better than the LSi's, and save some money at the same time, to put towards the gear to run it.The nirvana inducer-

You're welcome:D...George and others make some good recommendations...a good source,pre-amp and amp. is where I would start...if you want some tubes in the mix,a good tubed pre-amp is a good place to start.
A favorite saying around here is "garbage in/garbage out" even entry level speakers will sound good with the right gear ahead of them...and very good speakers will sound "average" with "average" gear driving them.
If you can find some CP members in your area,I'm sure they would more than happy to let you check out their set-up.
Keep in mind the LSi series are 4 ohm loads that will take some good power to sound their best.
Good luck, this place is full of good advise. -
If i can find some SDA's on craigs list i will pull the trigger. I have some RT55I's but i want to go with something classic. maybe even if i have to refurbish them my self. so you guy's think i should start with a tubed pre/amp w/amp?
not mono block amps? . I can't wait to start getting some things together. once i have the speakers out of the way i will be on the hunt.
