Back in the late 80s, when I was in college "working" at the college radio station, we had a pair of these. They used to be red in color and made for Discwasher. We would "zap" all of our vinyl records with it before play (on Technics SL1200s)

That brings back memories....
As well as this:
I still have mine from the early 80's....probably time to refill the radioactive element!

Do they work?

To be honest, I couldn't really tell.
I have to say that all the vinyl records we used at the college radio station were ours, not the station's. The station's budget back then was $1,000 for the year and therefore no money for records. The DJs had to bring in our own record collection (in milk crates). My own records were always placed in Discwasher anti-static rice paper sleeves. Did the Zerostat gun help or not? Maybe. -

Still my choice for vinyl storage. They fit so perfectly.Danny Tse wrote:Did the Zerostat gun help or not? Maybe.
I have never used one myself, but I have a friend who swears his really helps with the static. Madmax uses one as well IIRC. There is no bigger vinyl-head on the forum than Chuck...so there must be something to it."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Yes they do work. We also used to use them in the lab in the wintertime to minimize static when weighing small quantities of fluffy solids in a microbalance.

I actually ordered one of these last week. Got a confirmation it was shipped out last Friday and hopefully arrives here this week at some point. I hear they work great; but will let you know. -
I've been using mine for 25 years and it is still alive and kicking.
PS: there is a video in a thread somewhere here where a fellow takes a packing peanut and statically sticks it to an LP then zaps it a couple of times with the gun and the peanut falls off. Good evidence there. -
A good way to test it's function,,take the cap/nozzle off, insert your finger,or other appendege and smartly pull the trigger.;)JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
