Is it just me or is Polk's Web-site like the slowest on the web?

Not necessarily talking about in the Club. Posting, jumping threads, etc. could be quicker, but its not too bad.

But go to the main site and it's soooooo slooooow. Seems especially so in the product library.

The pages all say, "This page took 0.2097 seconds to assemble". If true, why am I sitting here waiting about 30 seconds for it to come up and tell me that?

I know it ain't me... got a Dell gigga rig and cable modem that hits 500kbs at times on downloads...

Two words for Polk IT Dept... Sun Microsystems... ;)

I never have a problem with Polk's site. Always loads quick.

Based on cable specs, your download speeds are slow in general. My cable hookup consistantly hits around the 1 megabit download speed. 550 kbs is still lightning fast when compared to dialup.

You might try cleaning out IE's temporary cache, as it can get quite large over time if it's not cleaned out very regularly. Under Tools/ Internet Options/ Temporary Internet Files/ hit the delete files button, and clean out the offline content too.

Also, if you have IE 5 and above, you can go to Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced tab/ scroll towards the very bottom, there's a 'Empty Temporary Internet Files when browser is closed' check box.

These pages could be trying to load quick, but chokes on getting through all the cached files. Just a thought...

It works pretty fast on dial-up at home and moves liek lightning on the fiber at work.

I agree with most of you, this site is pretty fast for me. I am using a DSL modem, and I have never had any problems. I think its pretty darn good.

 Yea, ATC, just another to add to a long list of "personal problems".

Took Dylan's advice (thanks for the help, had only amassed ~20,000 files in the IE cache) and it has helped some. Equipment pages still take about 15 sec's, but that's only half the "eternity" it was.

Still slow compared to most all other sites, but I'll live with it.

    ATC,

A few others are slow, but Polk seems to be the slowest. Again it's only really bad in the product library.

Programs run fine. I run clean up, scan disc and defrag weekly. Used to crash a lot, but since I started this routine they are rare.

I use Norton Internet Security, but I'm not getting warnings on the site unless I hit a page who's numbers happen to match one of my passwords.

More running in background than I want, but I kill many after restarts like Dell Help, i touch, DAP, and Wingman controller.

I am running earthlink's explorer. Like it's features better than MS IE. Earthlink does use IE as its backbone. I only use IE when shopping; Discover Deskshop interfaces with it won't with earthlink.

Thanks for the interest in helping. All suggestions are welcome.
