Guess it would depend on room size. Mine is only 14x14, and im getting real nice response from the Rti-a1's for rear's. But would really like A-5's if i could, for that task.Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-05

I'm using r50s as rears because (a) I had them, and (b) they were cheaper than the "correct" rears. However, I would not recommend that type of setup to someone starting from scratch. You want the rears to be above the ears. Make sure you get the correct center before you worry about the rear channels.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

Right on about the center, didnt see it in his sig. Heard A-5's in a home theater show room setup as rears and thought they sounded pretty good. But optimal setup like you say, is above listening position.Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-05

Perfect! good choice. I have my A-1's on 36" stands for a real nice rear soundstage. You could even consider A-3's. I havent heard the fxi-6's, but know other forum member's speak highly of them.Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-05

I should clarify. Towers don't work for me as rears because my sofa is backed up against a wall and I have the r50s on the sides of the sofa. Maybe if you could spread them out they would work reasonably well. But I still don't think that you want to go that way. I'm probably going to buy OWM3s which appear relatively easy to position and sell the r50s or move them to Zone 2. Then my GF will know I went off the deep end...MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

At first i had the A1's as my rears, but couldn't resist trying out the A3's. Once i brought home and tried out the A3's, the A1's quickly got put back inside the box and returned to Tweeter...:)
