I found out on friday that my company laid off quite a few people and with the way the economy is I could be in the next round of layoffs whenever that is. I decided to update my resume and put it out on the job sites but I was thinking that I would like to expand my computer knowledge and try to teach myself some programing. I currently do desktop support and know that limits me somewhat.

So my question is what would be a good place to start? Do I start learing how to do web page design or do I need to jump in to C+ and other languages? Since I am going to teach myself with the help from some books that I will buy I would like to start out with something fairly easy to learn.

Thanks in advance and look foward to all suggestions.

Dave

I'd suggest learning Microsoft .NET -- probably start with C# and some ADO.NET and go from there. There are free versions available here: http://www.microsoft.com/express/product/default.aspx

Be careful putting your resume out there too soon. If your HR Dept. sees that they may think you are more prepared to survive than the nitwit next to you and you'll get the axe.
