Wow...alright man. You were being kind of rude to me, after I had tried to help you. You said "stabilized wood", I took that as wood that had been stabilized by internal bracing. I apologize if that came across wrong.

That's what ";)" is for. To let you know that I'm just messing with you. Chill out man.;)

Yeah, and nooshinjohn said this about you:
a respected member of this group

You better get on a stick, man, and start goofing off bigtime!

p.s. I'm not sure about what these people mean by it, except I know that 25 years ago or so, it was a big deal to soak a green piece of wood in PEG, which is one molecule different from antifreeze, ethylene glycol. Don't know if that's what this terminology refers to, but I kinda smell a bunco.

It does have a remarkable effect of preventing checking and cracking in green wood, which wood-turners were really gaga about, but it was anything but a science at the time.

PEG used to also be the artificial sweetener in Dr. Pepper.

I guess so. Maybe I should join up with the spammers and start posting ads for cell phones and PS3's that only cost 20 dollars. Just send your money to this address...

Rockwood, judging by your posts, I'd say the very definition of Stable- eludes you.

Stabilized wood is what I use to make pens.
"stabilized wood is dried and resin stabilized (plastic impregnated) to provide uniform turning characteristics. Spalted woods often have soft spots; burls by their nature are tend to be unstable and prone to cracking and warping from changes in humidity. Stabilization virtually eliminates these problems."
When I make a pen out of stabilized wood it looks exactly like wood but the finish shine is amazing. The wood machines just like acrylic and it is not subject to humidity problems.

    http://www.arizonasilhouette.com/Pen_Blanks.htm

I think it would be enormously difficult to stabilize a whole speaker cabinet

Also, I thought that's what a finish was for... beyond looking nice, it was supposed to keep out any fluctuations in humidity/dryness.
