Slow internet

My room mate uses limewire to download crap and she's sucking up my bandwidth. Is there a way I can limit the amount of bandwidth a computer can access by changing settings on my wireless router? I hate having to deal with a slow connection because she wants to download songs.

If it's your bandwidth, tell her that it's an inconvenience to you when she downloads music and that you don't want her to do it anymore. If she wants still wants to download, suggest that she go to the library or set up her own internet connection. Problem solved.
I'm sorry that doesn't answer your question but seeing as how I'm computer stupid, that's what I would do.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Thanks but she's just the type of person who would say, Oh ok, sorry but keep doing it anyway. And right now I wouldn't even have a way to prove she's doing it.
I tried messing with the QoS settings of my router but they seem pretty technical and confusing. I'm hoping someone who is a network admin will chime in and eventually tell me what I need to do. -
Your wireless router can place limitations on those devices accessing the internet. You can even block her PC if you wanted by placing a block on the MAC address in her PC. If she's wireless now, then the MAC address is already in the router's log.
Theres tons of restrictions you can place on her access, however it depends on model of router as well. I suggest going through your manual and then going into the router settings and making those changes as needed.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Go and disable her ultrapeer capabilities as well as bringing her upload capabilities to its minimum level ( If you turn them completely off it would be best for you, but then she wouldnt be file sharing anymore...just leeching )....its not her downloading thats slowing you down...its all the people downloading from her thats the issue.
These options are in limewire and easy to find....she wont notice the difference whatsoever....but you will be back up to speed....have made this tweak many many times for others complaining of the same issues. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
does limewire work off a specific port? you could just block it / cancel any port forwarding.Polk monitor 10B's and 5 jr's

Limewire is on her computer, so I can't change those settings.
I have a linksys WRT54G v3.03.6. I can assign her MAC address a low priority but I'm not sure how I figure out what her MAC address is? As of now I have mine assigned to high.
I googled Limewire's default port and have that on Low priority but there doesn't seem to be a way to block it. At least I can't find it... -
Ask her to disable Limewire uploads when she isn't actively using her computer. My son had so many hits from Limewire requests one evening last week that my router flashed a warning that his computer may have been compromised. I made him disable the sharing when he wasn't home. What? There are still people out there doing that? Seriously man, if your name is on the internet account, disable that **** immediately. Limewire is the RIAA playground, and despite them not going after people as much, well you do not want to be left holding the bag.
There are other safer alternatives out there. Limewire, Bearshare, demonoid, and isoHunt should be avoided at all costs.
