Need Help with Lis 9's

I am finding that as nice as these speakers are, they are not filling the room as I would like. I am a two channel music listener, no HT. I want to get a subwoofer and was wondering if someone could give me a few suggestions. I have looked at a few on AudioAvisor. They have 3 refurbished Velodyne's. The models are the Minivee, (High End) DLS, (middle) and the VX. Anyone using Velodyne's. Just looking for some direction. I don't want to pay more than 500. Many thanks.

Bob, what is your cubic feet for your room?

The Velos are good subs, I helped a friend with one but for the money I think you can get more sub for the Money. HSU has a 10% off sale on their VTF-3-MK3 that is an excellent musical sub.

I have heard the minivee on two separate occasions and in both instances it sounded like a one note bass sub. My suggestion, for what it's worth, would be to steer clear of that one. No experience with the others, so I can not comment.

I'm running dual velo SPL-1200R's in a 3,000>cuft room. Powerfull for HT & very, very musical for two channel. I think they're a tad over your budget though. I've had others but for my money velo does it right.

I have LSi9s, 7s, and a C in a smallish room (with Yamaha avr and the 697 CDP as it happens) and I sprang for the velo spl 800 from Audio Advisor for $500. Actually I think I paid $600 and they dropped the price shortly afterwards.

It's not especially deep or overpowering but it blends well and easily with the speakers and fills out the bottom end nicely on classical and jazz recordings, and is imo pretty decent on blues and rock as well.

This is not a recommendation as I have nothing to compare it to except a PSW110. The velo is better than the Polk but that's not saying much, especially for 2 channel music.

However, I like the velo very well, don't regret the purchase at all, and when I consider system upgrades the sub never comes to mind.

Good luck with whatever you decide to buy.

Some good ideas here. Thanks for posting. I like the Velodyne SPL-800r, but J&R no longer carries them. I can't find them at the price they did offer at, 499.99. Some wants upwards of 900.00 for this woofer, a bit beyond my budget. Will keep hunting though.

are you still driving the 9's with that yamaha reciever? if you are, you might want to take that sub budget and put it toward some better amplification. those 9's are probably the hardest to drive out of the whole LSi line up.

if the yamaha has some pre outs, you can get a great used amp with that budget.
