I have a set of 10b's I bought new in 1984. They have the Polk logo's silver SL1000's.
I've been forced to put them back into service as my mains after a divorce deprived me of my 2.3sda's.
Taking into account the ears are twenty years older than they were when these were new - how would one go about determining what if any of the drivers were in need of repair/replacement? I am going to do an update on the crossover first, as that appears to be a no-brainer.
I want them back in like-new condition sonically if at all possible.
These guys were what got me into stereo originally.
Thanks in advance.

BTW-anyone on this forum have an opinion on Ed Frias and his EFE Speakers that seem to get a great rap on the web.????

Sorry to hear about the divorce and the loss of the 2.3's. At least you still got the 10B's.

Have they been in service or just in storage? Visual inspection of the rubber surrounds. Gently and evenly press the cones in and listen for any scratchy sounds. Hook them up and see if all the drivers play. If all is good at this point, you are likely good to go as far as drivers. If they have been in storage, you might want to break them in a little to loosen them up. The electrolytic caps in the XO's might be aging and changing values but you already plan to work them over.

One other thing to check. The glue around the cabinet seams could be aging/cracking or may not have been originally applied to fully seal it up. I found possible gaps in mine and went around the interior seams with silicone caulk.
