Rear Speaker Choice
Well, new to this forum and new to Polk Audio.
Stopped in for a quick listen today and was very impressed, to say the least, with Polk. All I was able to listen to was a pair of bookshelfs (RTi A3), due to time restraints. And compared them with a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors.
Both had their own advantages, but the Polk's would be easier to live with and made it for me
So I came home and jumped on the website for a look. And now I can't decide what to buy!
What I am looking for is a pair of rear speakers, and was wondering if I go to a set of bookshelfs (RTi A3) or one of the surround models.
I listen to a lot of music (very wide and varied taste) and have a small collection of SACD and DVD-Audio also, but will also be used for movies.
So, which direction should I head?
Budget is up to A$1000 if I have to!
I'd really appreciate some insightful advice.
Thanks,
Karl.

Your on the track. What kind of front speakers do you have?
-
Thanks for the welcome and not sure I should mention the following....but....
Please....Please.....PLEASE don't kill me!!!
Currently hve a pair of Bose 901's as my fronts.........
Got them almost brand new and very, very cheap about 10 years ago.
Have a bridged pair of Rotel RB980BX's driving them, and a
Pioneer VSX-AX2AS receiver on the front end, Pioneer SACD/DVD-Audio player also.
BUT, you guys have to believe me......I know the 901's are not that great, and I am in the process of working my way up to a pair of really serious fronts, and might probably get a pair of LSi25's, but in the mean time I need a rear surround speaker.
I have seen the light!!!!
So, do I go a pair of bookshelfs or the surrounds?
What's the difference, and what is better?
Thing is, there is nowhere here in my city to audition them both.
Thanks,
Karl. -
You should look at replacing the mains first then worry about the rears later. Just a thought. Nothing wrong with Bose. I have a pair I use for jack stands.:)
If you plan on getting LSI 25's you should look at getting a pair of LSI 7's or LSI FX's for the rear -
LOL....Yep, someone also said boat anchors to me recently too!!
However, after many hours of very careful set up, I believe they sound better than any other pair I have heard, and will do the job for now.
Anyway, today's budget dictates that it is going to be rears....but I just can't figure out the advantes/disadvantages of the bookshelfs or surrounds as stores here don't have both to audition. -
With that budget, you should be able to do a complete setup with the TSi series. It's all in the detail.
