speaker info
i'm new at this so i appreciate your patience....i was pretty impressed with a set of rm 6750's that i heard....thought they would be very good for entry level set up
also would monitor 50's for fronts....and monitor 30's for surrounds be better than the 6750's.
either set up would used for the most part for movies
i'm a complete novice ...and have limited funds....thanks in advance for your help

I would recommend the Monitors myself. I may be kind of partial to them since I have the 70's and 40's for my surrounds, but who knows. They might be harder to get you hands on these days due to them being temporary "replaced" by the TSi series, but a good speaker none the less. Also Onecall has the Monitor 60's for $150 a piece, would this be out of your range? If not I would recommend those and the Monitor 40's ($200 a pair) for your surrounds, with a CS2 ($150) as your center. All said and done, minus a sub of course, you are looking at about $650 for all 4. If you are intrested I can give you links to all these speakers I found for the price.HT Rig

the first 2 sites both link to the monitor 60's
if you don't mind me asking are the 60's the same as a T90e ?
thanks again -
Oops, sorry my bad, I'll put another link in here for the 40's at the end of this post. Yes the T90e's are the same as the Monitor 60's. They are the "European Version" of the 60's. The specs are identical, but the looks are a bit different (no silver background on the T90e's) and they are only available in black (I think) Some people here have bought them but I have had no experience with them myself.

*Cough* Post **** *Cough* Anywhoot, sounds like you did pretty well for your entry level system. Good choice on receivers, that 606 is amazing at what it does for what it costs. Yeah, it has no pre-outs for adding an external amp, but it didn't seem to be something you wanted to do anyway, so glad it wasn't a deal breaker. I love my 806 and my Monitor series speakers so I will be surprised if you are anything but tickled when you get it all up and running. I can assist you if you need any help as well, as I too am very familiar with Onkyo receivers (all I've ever owned) Good luck setting it up and feel free to tell us how it sounds when you get it done.HT Rig

Nice choice's. Think you will like this setup as opposed to the Rm6750 system, A nice entry level package, but nothing beats the satisfaction of putting your own system together. Good luck.:D

i'm not at all sorry i didn't get the 6750's.....i have to admit they sounded good tho......i can only imagine the quality of the next level and above polks cause i am just floored with the sound from my system......putting the system together was pretty painless except for one really time consuming bone head mistake that i made......but i can laugh about it......thanks
The 6750 was my first system which was pretty good, but i caught the bug and started upgrading to now, my current setup. Yeah, i have made some bonehead mistake's too, with many more to come, the growing pains of getting into Home audio. LOL.Receiver: Pioneer Elite SC-05

How would everyone compare 70's to Lsi 9's. Mostly HT application. Also what type center for 70's-want a matching center with plenty of power. Also will need rear matching speakers-suggestions? I will be using Oink 806 for AVR. -

Night and day.
CSi25 if you can find one or maybe a CSi5 or CS20
TSi200 or look around for some Monitor 40's for a better match -
The Monitor 70's compared to the LSi9's is going to be a night and day difference. The Monitors are basically Polks lower end...but kinda middle of the road speakers. The LSi's are Polks flagship reference series. There is no comparison there...
As for a center, the ideal match would be either a CS2, or it's newer counterpart, the CS20. They're both essentially the same speaker though. I'd go with the CS2 because of the price difference.
Surrounds- You'd want to look to either the Monitor series or TSi series. The Monitor 40's or TSi200's should suffice. I'd go for the Monitor series myself, as they're essentially the same speaker, and the Monitors can be had for a lot cheaper currently. You also look into one of the smaller Monitor series towers for surround channels if you wanted to go that route. Either the Monitor 50 or Monitor 60.
That Onkyo 806 should do a fine job powering them. There are a few people on the board that have almost the same setup, and they're in love with it.The nirvana inducer-

i keep reading about setting speakers to small....how is this done...and what does it do???
speaker setting only gives me 2 options....normal & bi amp
nothing in speaker config. either -
The reference to the small setting is for the crossover point in the AVR. Not familiar with the Onk but seems like I have read that they call it, or maybe their large setting something else. Someone that has owned an Onk will have to help out here. With the speakers you listed (actually most speakers) you would want to use this "small" setting. This will send the real low stuff to your sub, takes a little load off the other speakers.
-
On the Onkyo's there isn't a large or small setting. What you need to do is adjust the crossover point. "Full Range" is the same thing as setting it to large, where as any of the other crossover points are the small settings.
Setting the speakers to small, frees your sub up to do what it's meant to do...produce the bass, and takes the load of producing the bass signals off of your other speakers, so they can produce the mids and the highs more efficiently.
Personally, I'd set all of the crossover points at 80hz. All of the speakers, and the sub. This is about the optimal point for them to be. Obviously though, personal preference comes into play, and everyones system is going to be a little different. 80hz is a good starting point for everything though. The nirvana inducer-

Hi,
Could someone clarify this rather counterintuitive idea of setting your speakers to small? Most Onkyos have a Doublebass feature which allows you to send FULL bass to your fronts and your Sub for Stereo. How is it that you would have any 'less' bass if the sub receives all the bass it needs when the crossover is set to 80hz or so?
Even if the fronts are set to full range the sub DOES NOT RECEIVE any less BASS! It sounds a bit crazy to take a set of M70s which have a legitimate 40hz low and set them to 'small'? And even more bizarre to set RTI-A7s and A9s which go even lower to that.
I understand that the idea is that you have more power for upper level frequencies. But I, can honestly say that I've done this and heard nothing that sounded 'better' to me? And the bottom line is that you limit yourself for two channel sound doing that! Isn't that why we're running Large fronts to begin with?

Does sound kind of strange doesn't it. This is, as I understand it is directed more for HT where the LFE track can go down to what might be damaging levels for some speakers. I believe that the 80 Hz starting point is a Dolby or THX recommendation. With true "full range" speakers many would skip a sub alltogether at least for 2 ch. I hope that someone that really understands the different aspects of bass management will chime in to help me understand this more as well.
Would not using the sub out, LFE in on a sub and using speaker level eliminate the super low LFE signals from ever being heard?
I'm not familiar with the Onk double bass feature, but am I understanding you correctly that this is a sub + main setting that is only applied when in 2 ch. mode?
