Good stuff Jim. I love the train shots mostly.
As you can guess, my being a backpacker, all of my work is shot on the fly/hand held.
I have my own web site as well but it is being converted into hi-res right now and I don't want anyone to see it until it is presentable again. I've had my own photography web site since 1996 in fact.
What train is this? It is a monster. I have a section of old steamers as well but not at the link I posted here.
Yeah I'm not real far from SteamTown in Scranton PA.
Got some kewl shots there a few years back.
Steam is my Fav also!!
You must mean this MONSTER? 4-8-8-4

I have a photography web site I've kept since 1996 but it is closed for a high-res conversion right now. I've been backpacking and photographing this nations National Parks for 32 years. I shoot hand held/on-the-fly landscape mostly. Some of my favorite photography can also be found at:

Some beautiful shots there. I need to get myself a new camera. I go hiking and backpacking quite a bit...I need to start getting some pictures when I do. Last summer a friend and I went backpacking through southern Utah, through Arches National Park and Bryce Canyon mainly...didn't manage to get any pictures though except for a few on a disposable camera I brought. I need to get myself a new camera...if only I didn't have to spend all this money on audio equipment...lolThe nirvana inducer-

Some great shots. Motzart is that waterfall HDR? or altered at all? Where was that?
I'm still very ameture at this stuff and have a lot to learn. I bought my XTi used when my daughter was born almost a year ago. To me me pictures come out pretty soft even with L Lens. I've been wanting to send it in for service just haven't found the right time to give it up yet haha.
A few I've taken over the past year that I'm pretty happy with:

I LOVE looking at other peoples work. I figure that most people who appreciate audio probably appreciate visual as well as the arts in many other forms. We are a sensory people. Jim, I've spent a lot of time on the AT and some time around Knoxville. Beautiful country in the Fall and winter.
Chevy, I'd like to hear the math you used of the second fireworks shot, it is spectacular. Good catch on the mach compression too.

Here?
I'm addicted to Southern Utah and have spent much time trippin' around the Escalante country and Bryce/Zion. (another shameless excuse to post fun stuff)
I could do this all day. Sorry; I'll stop.
Fact is, if it is beautiful I'm addicted to it. Try falling in love 9 times a day. Tough....Link to my System Showcase...

I am really enjoying this thread! Some fantastic photography displayed in the previous posts.
In the same way that (IMO) it's impossible to make a bad-sounding amp using EL84 output tubes, I think it's impossible to take a bad photo of Brice Canyons. Gotta be one of the most beautiful places on earth (in my somewhat limited experience). -
Every Saturday or Sunday, in the winter, I head for Lake Mead National Recreation Area....if I'm not backpacking somewhere else. 6 miles and one traffic light and it is impossible to tell that there is a city just over the ridge. 1.5 million acres to just roam. I've been down in a wash and picked a small (2000 feet maybe) peak and picked my way to the top and time after time just blown away with the beauty. This happens every time I scale a new cliff or pick my way threw another slot canyon.
I've hike Bryce many times. It as a backpacking distination when it is too hot in the Grand Canyon and I've walked every trail there. It is an Alice in Wonderland place as is most of the SW frankly.
Ya know what's really funny? I live in the vacation capitol of the world but I can tell you bloody little about Las Vegas because I spend almost all of my free time in the "Other Las Vegas"....Link to my System Showcase...

Awesome pics,
The nickname for the Train Engine in post 2 is "Big Boy". It is one of the Challenger series engines (All named Big Boy) that ran on the Union Pacific Line back in the 1930's.
The one in the photo is Engine 4012. -

Wasn't that the nickname of one of the bombs dropped on Japan? If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Larry. Fantastic. So you are a city photographer?! Rome is the most magical town I have ever visited and I hope very much to return some day.
I don't have a lot of city photography but here's one a love. I was just plain lucky getting it.
From the Stratosphere at the north end of the strip. This is some kind of carny ride mounted on the roof that slings you out 50 feet over the edge and acts like it is going to dump you to the street.

Thanks. The lens I used was a borrowed Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM. This shot was taken at 70mm ISO 100 F/8 and 10 second shutter speed. It was my first time shooting fireworks and I really didn't know what I was doing other then playing with all the settings trying different time exposures and F stops lol.My Home Theater (WIP):

Good shutter speed. Tad long on the focal but it turned out great so I guess it wasn't long. Just right on the apiture. My experiment was my first as well but I did a bunch of reading first. I was 600 yards away from the burst. I waited untill I heard the shells ignite then used a cable the hold the shutter open. I waited untill 2 or 3 burst where completely finished. Turned out great. I'm going to try some wide stuff like yours next time I get a chance but July 4th fireworks in Las Vegas means being outside, at 9:30 PM, at 110*F. LOL....Link to my System Showcase...

I did mine in a home made light tent as well. When I was doing it I was amazed as how much light I needed. Started with 2 60w bulbs on each side but wasn't even close. Went to three, but still not enough. Then bought 100w bulbs (previsously used what was laying around), but still not enough. Lastly went with 4 100w on each side, and 2 spots of 120w and that was good. It's just so hard to get rid of the shadows (both those shot [even though they are nice] would be reject for stock photograph. To many shadows, out of focus areas and blown highlights. [they are really picky]).
