I'm kinda interested with a preamp that has a Phono connection with today's Newly a/v preamps...
My question is that is there any brands of todays that has Phono
connections for TURNTABLES?
Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Har

My preamp do not have a phono connection only AUX jacks,
now I find a phono preamp to connect Turntables and the phono
preamp to the Aux jack of my Preamp. I think I need something like this...

That sounds right. I thought you were asking something different.
I can't recommend any brands though. I bet audioreview.com would have the info that you need though. Good luck! -
har,
Youre on the right track. A separate, outboard phono pre-amp is what you are seeking.
I have an Audio Alchemy, Vac-in-the-Box that I love. Bought it through Audio Advisor a few years back. Heres the link to the current models they sell:

I think Audio Alchemy is gone now (at least I cant find anything but dead links to them), but this could include a valid e-mail address to contact them:

Creek Audio is still listed on Audio Advisor and I remember they were highly thought of.
Dont know what cartridge you have, MM or MC, but it pays to buy a phono pre-amp that can handle both (not all can). Often the switching from one to the other requires one or more internal changes to the phono pre-amp. Also note that some MC phono pre-amps require a high output MC.
Many choices await you my friend, from spending a couple hundred to a couple thousand, tubes vs. solid state, etc. But why should it be any different than the rest of this crazy hobby?
Im not too current, but Ill help where I can

My Harman Kardon h/k 825 pre amp can take MM/MC. I can even alter the capacitance trim in MC mode by adding 100, 200, or even 300 pico farads.
I can take the final L/R pre-outs from the h/k 825 and run them into the AUX input of my P.O.S. $70 Sherwood 2 channel stereo receiver and voila! - instant vinyl tunes.
Point is - you might be able to find a cheaper older pre-amp that would do the same thing as that ACURUS job."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Doc,
Your option is a valid possibility, no doubt about it. HK was well known for its fine phono sections. I used my old Yamaha C-2s built-in MM/MC phono section to feed my B&K AVP2000 in the same way you describe. But my Yamahas phono section died a few years ago. It is not uncommon for built-in phono sections to degrade/ die before the rest of the unit. This would make me hesitant to buy a used pre-amp just for its phono section.
I paid ~$100 for my stand-alone Vac-in-the-Box and it will outperform any mid-fi built-in around, and a fair number of stand-alones costing two or three times as much. It handles all MCs in same way your HK does, through a set of pf capacitors that you manually change. A very good phono pre-amp doesnt have to cost as much as the Acurus did, its just that most do.
har,
Did you catch page two of the Audio Advisor web-page? I missed it at first. In case you did too, heres a link to it. It adds one stand-alone to their offering.

I dont know this particular piece of equipment, but I know Sumiko, I own a very highly regarded MC cartridge they make. Also the description of their phono pre-amp is so similar to that of my Vac-, that it makes me wonder if they bought the design. Note that the Sumiko also is capable of adjustment to handle all MCs.More later,

Tour2ma,
I researched all the links that you provided. It helped me a lot, which one shall I get. I think I will go the one that
can handle MM/MC cartridge.
Anyway, thanks for the input.

This is what I'm getting in a few months. http://www.nadelectronics.com/PreAmp/C160.html
It also handles MM/MC cartridge. The price is also very good.

Is that an A/V preamp or just 2 channel preamp?

I misread the original post there. The NAD is a stereo pre amp. Are you looking for a multichannel(DD?DTS) pre or just a stereo pre with video switches?
