ok. not your typical Hollywood movie by any means... and it's a not a big hollywood release.. but dang this movie was much better than I expected it to be. I won't give away any spoilers, but there's a reason this movie was nominated for so many awards.

It has everything a good movie should have... good soundtrack, suspense, drama, violence, grit, some humor and yes a love story.

It's one of those movies that works better when seen in a movie theater. Just saying. :D

saw it 2 weeks ago. I agree that it is a very good movie. very well done. but i do not believe it deserves all its hype. a lot of people seem to just run with the crowd to be "safe" and say this movie was a masterpiece and so on, but while this movie may have deserved all the nominations, it is big part due to the fact that there were not many great movies in its category during the year.

Also the dance at the end totally killed the mood in the movie, leaving me bewildered. I totally enjoyed the movie up until that point.

ahhh gtu2004 you missed the tongue in cheek with the dance number at the end.

in all Bollywood movies there is always plenty of dancing and singing.. that's what the end singing and dancing number was all about. i didn't expect it.. but I knew what and why it was there.. poking fun at Bollywood movies. ;)

i agree isn't not a masterpiece of a movie.. but it's different and better in some ways than some of the crap Hollywood produces in abundance.

This is easily one of my top five favorite movies of all time. I was completely floored from beginning to end. Between The Wrestler and this, I feel like I'm getting spoiled on the cinematic front.

That dance number at the end was something of a tribute to Takashi Kitano's remake of Japanese classic Zatoichi (2003) where at the end heroes and villains, living and dead, gangsters and transvestites get together for a spirited drum-enhanced village dance.

I thought Slumdog was a cleverly produced Hollywood takeoff on the classic theme that's been beat to death. I guess that horse will never be totally dead.

The very real human suffering of Mumbai it was couched in was just too much for me to go "woo-hoo" at the end. But my wife liked it just because the ending was such a relief.

The girls at work told me not to bother, it's a chick-flick.

Are you serious? There's absolutely nothing about this movie that would make it a "chick flick". It's Danny freakin' Boyle for chrissakes.

Any movie where a bunch of Hindus beat Muslims with clubs and set them on fire is not a chick-flick.

110, eh? I would kill an endangered species of your choosing if you could please come off whatever mathematical formula you're working with.

    1.1billion / 1 million = 1100, not 110.

Reminds me of "if you're one in a million, that means there's a thousand people just like you in China."

I guess it's just me, but didn't think it was so great.
The Academy is so clueless most of the time in my opinion. I worked for an independent film funder for almost 7 years but stopped watching the Oscars about 10 years ago. I think Slumdog is cute for cable, but a tad too much hype!
The children gave the best performance by far. I think this movie would have been a far better served if was directed by Fernando Meirelles ( City of God) or Mira Nair ( Monsoon Wedding).

I watched this movie Saturday night and loved it. I've read reviews about the unbelieveability of it, but that's MOST movies, so that's a moot point to me.

I can't speak to the reality of it, but if those 'city' conditions in the beginning were real (or even partially real) then that's a tragedy.

The dance at the end was AFTER the movie......so why that would be something to complain about is beyond me. I really liked the movie.....and plan on buying it on DVD as soon as it comes out.

comes to DVD and Blu on March 31

it's a must buy for me.

I too don't understand the whole "I hate the dance number at the end of the movie" that some people have with it. it's a poke at Bollywood movies is all.

I have read where those conditions are real. Maybe not the entire city.. but certainly some parts.
