Headphones less than $100

First, I need a CLOSED headphone. Listened to Grado 60 & 80, which sounded good. However the open design won't work for what I'll be using them for (work, running sound at church, etc...) I will also be doing "quality" listening, so i don't want DJ cans.

I'm ready to drop dime on Sennheiser HD280 ($85 shipped on ebay). I have never heard them and, frankly, don't have time to call/drive all over looking for a pair to listen to.

Based on reviews, these seem like the standard for that price. Anybody have any advice or an alternative dark horse?

He absolutely loves them. He is going to school for Music Recording and he is doing an internship at these studios: http://www.chungkingstudios.com/

He did mention under $100. :D
    Also closed design.

I have the HD280 and love em.
They do carry great reviews everywhere...I looked before I bought mine also!
They are nice for transport cuz they fold up nicely....cord can easily be replaced if need be.
Got mine off feebay for $50 shipped Like New(nailed em on a Buy-It-Now).......Guy claimed to have em for a coupla weeks and they were a bit big for His needs.
Rare to find em that reasonable but they are around for less than $85.
    Patients Grasshopper! ;)

MSRP is 200 clams which I think is VERY high!

Have you considered Sony's MDR-V6 (or its professional version, the MDR-7506)? These are the defacto industry standard for studio headphone monitors and are of closed design. There's a reason why they have been in production for over 20 years.

Oh yes, you can definitely get these for under $100.00.

Grado 125's, period. Don't look at anything less in the line, the sound is fine, but the comfort factor comes in at the 125. It's my daily driver with the Melos headamp/pre.

You're comparing apples and oranges. He named the lifespan of a particular product, and you countered with how long a company has been in business.

I've had a pair of Sennheiser's since the early 90s and I've never had another pair sound as nice. Their midrange has great depth and the bass is like being there. Sennheiser's are the way to go, but not sure which model you'd need.

    Sennheiser HD280
I've owned a pair of these for many years now. As with many earphones, the very bottomest of bottom end is none present but they are very musical with little coloration and they are very comfortable.

FYI. I got the Sennheiser HD280 on ebay for $85 shipped/new. They were worth $85. They are comfy enough and the sound is pretty good. The Grado where probably better sounding, but I needed a closed ear design to keep noise in/out.

I like the one cord to one side design, verses the split cord going to each ear. Makes it easier to keep the cord out of the way when typing, etc...
