Polk is Good!

Hi All! This is my first post!

Got my son a modest HDTV for gaming for Christmas. Great picture, but the TV sound was so anemic he complained, which is unusual for him, but he was right.

I found a good deal on a pair of R150's and a PSW10, and hooked them up to a old, but excellent Yamaha CA-1000 I had stored (great classic integrated amp!).

I am amazed. The HDTV/7.1 system I have in our family room cost more than 40 times as much as the stuff I got the boy. It sounds better. But not 40 times better. Not even close.

The sound these three small, inexpensive speakers puts out is flabbergasting given the price. Finding the right location, crossover point, and volume setting for the sub took some fiddling, but made a huge difference.

Kudos to Polk!

Pete

    Hi,

You're right. Polk bookshelves have always impressed. Just line up a number of similarly priced speakers and you will hear a difference. And at that price your boy is lucky.

That's a very nice starter system for music; especially with an 'integrated' amp. That's what will give you the nice sound you're hearing, and although the PSW-10 is an entry sub and can put out some nasty port noise if you push it too much. Once properly set up for a smaller room it can be pretty good for music. It's got to be Polk's best selling sub despite all the Polk (sub-haters around).

    Enjoy,

And maybe you'll consider some higher end Polks for yourself, who knows. It's a bit infectious around here. I've been posting only some recently and these guys already have me convinced that I need to hear an Emotiva amp?

Heh heh, you selected "karma" as a heading when you started your thread...

Karmas around here are usually from people who decide to give something away, that's all.

Look around the Forum, esp. the Clubhouse, and you'll see what I mean :D. It's all good, though.
