JL Gothams/Fathoms

Does anybody have a Gotham or Fathom? I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. With the pricetag, I'd imagine they proabaly do not suck.

I've never heard one...though I would definitely love to. I've never heard anything bad about them though. They certainly look badass.

I'd have to concur, with a pricetag like that, they probably do not suck...lol

haha, without a doubt man. I've only seen one or two vids on Youtube and on one of them the guy had two Gothams in each corner. Thats worth about the same amount as my car. The excursion is quite ridiculous but it's JL so what do you expect.

Honestly, I think most of JL audio's stuff is overpriced for what it is...Especially the Gotham. One PB13U=one F113 for half the price. Granted we're talking sealed vs ported too, but...

    One Gotham=$12,000

I have one and this sub is serious business. I love this thing, and I will be getting another one come April to round things out. Compact, sealed, high quality piano black gloss finish looks great with my piano black LSi Polks. This is a very musical sub, very clean output, the best Ive heard and Ive listened to quite a few before I bit the bullet. This sub is not meant to be considered the best bang for the buck type of sub. THis sub is meant to compete against the likes of Velodyne and Revel. If you just need booms and bangs for HT then I say you probably should consider something else. You dont need an audiophile quality sub for that. If music is more important than I say this sub should be a serious consideration. Im a bit biased because I come from car audio world and own Polk SR and JL W7s in my car and love the combo. Now I have the same for my home.

Nice man, I can certainly understand your point coming off from car audio. No other car sub can compete with JL especially those W7's. I guess since JL subs in cars are meant for 100% music, that carried over into their home aspect. Glad to hear these do work, I can't wait until the day I have enough dough to drop on a JL home sub.

They've just announced the F212 Fathom sub with 2 12" woofers. It retails $6k, half the Gotham.

No doubt they make a fantastic product but the price of admission is steep. If I had $6g's to spend on a sub I would opt for a quad setup of these http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/uls15.html instead of the F212.
