The Aynsley DUNBAR Retaliation. Unremarkable English Blues Band from the 60's, Aynsley Dunbar went from that job to playing for Zappa, and Frank would introduce him as "My two new drummers." MONSTER drummer, he was also Journey's first drummer. I hated it. He was in his element with Frank. My favorite drummer of all time.

Nice recovery there GG... I guess you read this week's first post and forgot it by the time you got to the bottom of thread to date... Old dogs can learn new tricks, they just forget them right away, eh? ;) ...or were you trying to hustle us along to the "Z's" for some reason??? :D
Welcome aboard and feel free to add to any of the previous LOTW threads posted.

Shack, nice little post on the Doobies. We are so on the same wavelength there.

My “D’s” for the day are:

    Thomas Dolby
The Golden Age of Wireless Vinyl – (1983 EMI – ST-12271)
“She Blinded Me with SCIENCE” --- “Good Heavens Mrs. Moto, You’re Beautiful!” The synth’d Tom-Toms dancing between your SDA’s at the end of this cut are worth the price of admission alone. I remember loving this album from start to finish two decades ago. Upon further review, not sure I can say that now, but it is still worth having.

This was to be Rock’s next boy genius at one time. This was a hugely successful initial release. Don’t know if it was the hype, the success, the record company or what, but he never did rise to the same level again, at least not that I’d heard. Actually I was shocked to see on AMG that he released 8 albums in all. They give The Golden Age of Wireless a slight nod as his best. Of the 16 tracks on his “hits” CD, … Retrospectable, 5 are from this album.
    RECOMMENDED

    Donovan
    The best of… – C-90 (circa ’70) - **CD is available, latest is Sony 26439** :)
Donovan was at one-time the crowned prince of “Flower Power”. He was also one of the earliest “one-name” artists. Full name? Donovan Phillip Leitch.

Check out this “hits” line-up: “Sunshine Superman”, “There is a Mountain”, “Wear Your Love Like Heaven”, “Season of the Witch” (Good cover? Nope, great original, he wrote it. The Zombies did the classic cover.), “Mellow Yellow”, and “Hurdy Gurdy Man”. What more do you want?

Biggest shock? By AMG’s count, Donovan has released 29, yes, 29 albums in all, not counting multiple “hits” collections.

If The best of… line-up recalls a time for you, own it. If it doesn’t, well that’s cool, too, you know, I mean it’s groovy, I can dig where you’re at…. Peace Brother…

Def Leppard - Pyromania was a great album.

The Dixie Dregs did some interesting stuff back in the 70s.

Def Leppard - was a great album.

Agreed - I'm supprised it took this long for them to come up - one of the best 80's rock bands IMO. Hysteria was a pretty good album too but Pyromania was the best.

Charlie Daniels. This southern country rocker can flat play a fiddle. He also fits right in with the rest of those country rock outlaws.

Haven’t seen much listing this week, at least after the fairly furious start… like I said to F1 my D’s are kinda low, but here’s what I have left:

    The Del Fuegos
    Boston, Mass – Vinyl (1985 Slash – 25339-1)
Been a long time since gave it a listen, but I remember buying it around the time I picked David & David (discussed earlier) and felt it held up well in the competition. Sleeve does command you to “Play this record loud”, which is often a good sign (ala Ziggy and James Gang Rides Again).

Will update when I give a listen, meanwhile maybe an east coaster has something to add…

    Deodato
Prelude – Vinyl (1972 Creed Taylor, Inc. – CTI 7081 & prev rel as CTI 6021)
From AMG: “Despite a productive career, Deodato will always be best-known for a 1972 hit record, his catchy adaptation of "Also Sprach Zarathurstra (Theme From 2001: A Space Odyssey)." That’s this one. In addition to Strauss’ “Also Sprach…” he also “covers” Debussy’s “Prelude to Afternoon of a Fawn” and “Baubles Bangles and Beads”. All of these are Jazz/ Rocked up enough to rate listing here. Three original compositions round out the album; one was co-written with Billy Cobham. A pretty eclectic line-up that works.

Long before he wrote and recorded, Deodato was a highly regarded producer/ arranger for the likes of Sinatra, Bette Midler and others. He must have made a lot of friends in those years because the player list for Prelude is long and impressive. Most notable of the many players on are Ron Carter, Hubert Laws, Stanley Clarke and Billy Cobham.

Neil Diamond – Joe’s already mentioned him, but WTH… different album here…
Classics: The Early Years – Vinyl (1983 CBS – PC 38792)
Long before Neil retired to Branson, MO, he was a rocker. This collection is all the original recording he made for Bang records back when AM radio ruled the airwaves. It includes: "Kentucky Woman," "Cherry, Cherry," "Solitary Man," "Thank the Lord for the Night Time," "I’m a Believer," "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," "Shilo" and "Red, Red Wine."

I’ll stop short of stating that it’s essential to any collection, but not by much. It’s a very valuable addition, if you can find it. AMG does not even list it.

I have been holding this guy back, trying to give you Texas posters a chance, but it seems you are going to leave him out.

Chris Duarte. This Texas born and Austin based blues rocker has been compared to SRV. His 1st album from 1994 titled "Texas Sugar/ Strat Magik" is pretty good. His 1997 "Tailspin Headwack" is also worth a listen. Have not heard his third album.

Another couple that I came across tonight:

Divinyls Essential - 1987- another "best of" album I don't normally buy and Divinyls - 1991. The music is OK but the album covers alone are worth the price!

    B000000WHJ.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

    c01265sv5s2.jpg

OK...I'll admit it. I bought these after the video for "I Touch Myself" came out. I could watch Christina Amphlett in this video over and over (sorta like that guy in the movie "Brainstorm" who put the virtual reality porno in a tape loop - but I digress). What a BAD Girl!!! Not great music but it did have a ceratin quality to it. They were a decent rock band. Essential covers all of their early stuff and Divinyls with the track "I Touch Myself" actually brought them some recognition outside of Australia.

Edit: sounds like another potential thread brewin' doesn't it?
