NAD CD Player Problems

Does anyone have any experience with NAD CDP's having problems with tracking? Just the past couple of weeks my C542 started acting up. It skips but picks right up where it left off. CD-R, CD-RW, HDCD or regular CD's, doesn't matter which kind of disc.

Today I played a standard disc (store bought which I KNOW played well before) and it skipped 4 times on the first song, 3 times on the second and one time each on the third and fourth. After that it was fine. I was playing a disc a couple weeks ago, when all this started and towards the end of the disc it just stopped and made a funny beeping noise from the inside somewhere. It still had a read on the front display, just didn't do anything. So..., I ejected it, put it right back in and it played fine. I take excellent care of my discs BTW.

I don't use it constantly, hardly at all this fall with stuff around the house, so it hasn't been abused and such. As for age I picked it up, ya, I had to order it, in March of '04.

I'm going to have the system apart next week for re-arranging and such so figured that's the best time to take the cover off, if need be.

Oh yes, almost forgot. I did clean the lense and it didn't help.

Sounds like the tracking errors I get when the lens have too much dust on it. Buy a can of compressed air, open up the unit and spray the lens. Remember to use small bursts.

I'll try that next week. I played it more yesterday and seemed to do better. Skipped once on the second disc, none on the next, then last night it skipped twice on the last with the last skip stopping the whole machine again. I am leaving the player in "stand-by" mode again as well, haven't done that for quite a while. Figured I don't have anything else to loose. Besides, my 18 lb. "sledge" would always do the trick.

Guess I expected more from this player...
