I think on the main polk website they have go-bys on proper setup for in ceiling speakers.

Joemay - did you ever get a response to the insulation question. I want to install in a ceiling for my surrounds, but am concerned with the blown-in insulation. What to do? I spoke to one "expert" at a store and he just stumbled with an answer saying put the insulation on top of them, it wont hurt-maybe right maybe not, but he didnt make me feel confident. I reviewed Polk's guide but again not a word about blown in ceiling insulation.

I installed my tc80i about a year ago the good people at Polk said to loosely place the insullation on top. I have never had an issue with them being covered in blown insullation.

We installed some ceiling speakers in my friends house, he had about 18" of blown insulation (cellulose) in the attic. What we did was take a piece of fiberglass roll insulation, and stapled it in place over the speakers, all the way around, paper side towards the speakers, then smoothed the blown in insulation back over the top.

I can't imagine all the dust from the blown in insulation would be good for the voice coils if they are left exposed to it.

Well i'm speaking from owning the speakers for over a year and was using the information from the Polk engineering team. Why go out of your way when I have confirmation that blown insulation will do nothing to your speakers. They are engineered with in ceiling placement in mind why would someone make an in ceiling speaker that is going to be damaged from blown insulation?
