My new ride, a motor-bicycle

Picked it up last night. I've been looking to buy an engine kit for my beach cruiser but found this instead. The kit would have cost roughly $200 all said and done, plus I'd have to install it, this was $420 out the door.

The previous owner tweaked it out with help from the local bicycle shop here in HB on Main St., Jax's Bicycle. It's all brand new, custom built 5-speed bike with a 2-cycle 80cc engine and will do about 35-40 mph with an average of 150 miles on the 1 gallon tank. There's only 36 miles on it so I'm only doing 15-20 mph for now.

I put about 3 miles on it this morning running my errands. I plan to do some mods to it, tweak the engine with some dampening materials to lessen the vibrations, add a bike rack on the back and custom the engine out a bit.

About a penny a mile. Sweet. It's a real 2 stroke? I see the sleeve on the exhaust, is that an expansion chamber?

Despite my best efforts, I can't think of anything snide, cynical, or moronic to say about your ride, Ron.

    That's actually pretty cool

My friend used to have a 49cc. I think anything above that you had to have a license on it or something (in texas anyway).

It was pretty cool, you start pedaling and then basically pop the clutch and it takes over. His did about 30ish going slightly uphill.

Just be careful, bikes are not made for motors, ESPECIALLY those cruisers. The single speed ones are far, far worse though. He ended up taking the fenders off because they rattled a lot. Also, keep a keen eye on your brakes, because the pads wear out 3x as fast as normal.

They are fun as hell though. Its hilarious keeping up with cars on city streets...theyre always like 'wtf?' Even better if you wear a helmet, jacket and gloves...lol.

Mine's an 80cc but from the outside there's no way to tell what the cc's are. The guy I bought it from said if I do get pulled over just say it's 48cc's.

I do have some vibrations and rattles which I plan to get working on fixes for. There's some great info on forums for these things for fixing the noises and such.

I already have the helmet, gloves are next. Just in case I crash I want hand protection.

Yea, he was going to get a bigger motor and do exactly what you were told to do..lol.

When we were riding around in helmets and gloves, I was riding around in my full motorcycle gear...full leather jacket, gloves, and full front face mask...classic!

I have a basket for the back, behind the seat, just need to install it. But, no bells though, I want to install a cup holder. Not sure if they make one for bikes but I can mod a car cup holder if needed. Trying to ride back from Starbucks the other day proved to be quite a challange.

That thing is awesome Ron. I'm only 1.5 miles from work, so I hate paying for another vehicle for that short of a trip (yes I know, walk you lazy ****....)

For the price of a car payment, I could be riding to work motorized and dirt cheap....food for thought. And my cousin is a harley mechanic so I'm sure he could help "fine tune" things a bit.

Thanks Ron, I may have a used Lexus for sale in the flea market soon!
