    Quit NOW!!!!!

I just bought 5 receptacles for my wall outlets in my new house. They cost me $380!!!

ROFL! It will never end! I think it is already too late for me without even getting my first set figured out. Before I know it I'll be buying outdoor speakers just so I can rock while I watch grass grow :\

So, I've been seriously considering pulling the trigger on the 806. Before I do though I just want to know if there are some other decent choices in the same type of range that I can compare with? Rather, ones that folks here would recommend. I actually found a Yamaha that.. although cost around 900-1000 seems to have decent specs. The HTR-6180BL. Lower wattage then the 806 of course, but seems pretty feature packed? Just thoughts on this is all. It is expensive no doubt (but can be had cheaper).

So, even if a receiver is rated at 130w, you are going to get a lot less usually huh? Oye. Bit late, hope I'm making sense.

Yeah, it is a general understanding that the wattage you get to your speakers is considerably less than what is advertised. Maybe not so much with a $7,000 receiver, but with a "general population" model you can expect a dropoff.

    Well,

The SR706/806 does indeed seem to have some video problems which haven't been completely worked out yet. You can read it here if anyone is interested:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/onkyo-owners-forum/861460-onkyo-tx-sr806-blue-dots-black-1080p.html

Basically in 1080p you will get a lot of blue artifacts in the darker areas. Which is a shame as this receiver does seem to have a lot going for it. I use 1080p so that Can be a bit of a problem.

I'm still on the fence on getting it or not. Or finding a similar receiver (same brand or not) with similar abilities in that price range. I imagine that is a tough one.

I have heard about this problem, and read the threads on it but apparently I got lucky because my unit in any mode from any device does not produce those blue dots at all. I have watched many BD, and played many hours of PS3 games and no blue dots. (knocks on wood)

Issues with 1.3 HDMI passthrough with no processing being done by the Onkyo in any way?

How is that even possible. The Onkyo isn't doing anything to a 1080p signal?

Even the cheapest HDMI 1.3 audio enabled receiver doesn't seem to have such problems?

    Who knows, I guess.

It seems that they have started to fix them? I guess if your serial number ends with a G, it is a proper version. They need to work out their customer service issues, oye.

I've decided to go with the 706/806. It just has the right price and enough additions to warrant a buy. I'll just have to hope I don't get stuck with the blue issue. Still deciding between which model as I'll probably add an amp, but I'll make that decision soon. Not a whole lot of difference besides some power. Mostly. I'm trying to find out if there is any difference in the upscaling. I thought I read about it will upscale from any source, but also read that it won't?*shrug

Just depends on money is all. Now that this is nearly taken care of, I just gotta find some deals on those a5's.

Your budget is not your real budget, cause once you get what you do, you will have a new budget. Even though this is a Polk forum, there are many that are unbiased. You will eventually see. Once you get the rti's you will then wonder about the lsi's. After that you will wonder about modding the lsi's. You can go used from reputable people for quality speakers and gear. The price in dollars does not equal better, everyone has a different taste and listening for things. Two people could look at the exact same picture and see things completely different, same goes for musical taste and listening. You must listen for youself, a 40 minute to hour drive should not be of concern because likely what you get you would want to keep for a long time. You could research all you want based on all the things you read, but, you should let your own taste and listening determine. On a last note, if your budget really does end there, then you must give things a listen.

    Halen,

I agree with you. It would be cool to listen to all these different types and see what I Really think (which will probably cost me more). No it isn't my real budget I'm sure. Things will change, additions will happen.

I did another search with a 100 mile radius and its a real laugh. 24 results: 22 of those are Best Buy's and Circuit City's. With Circuit City closing their doors soon I doubt they have much left. Now, there site is no longer up it seems so I'm not sure the models they carried? There are two local shops listed which one is around that 40 minute mark which is Ok. I'll see what I can find out.

Anyway! I'm just excited is all!

CC typically caries Onkyo products. It is where I bought my HTIB back in the day and I almost bought my 806 there, but got a better deal online. BB does not carry Onkyo produts (typically) Call the CC nearest you and ask if they still have any 706 or 806's left, if they do they can probably be had for a good price.

Thanks for all the info guys. This thread helped me more than you'll know. I was pretty lost at the beginning with figuring all this out. I've learned quite a bit though. Of course there are still more questions! haha.

First off, I have decided on the lsi9's. I thought about it over the past few days going back and forth. And then a good deal came along for the 9's and I just thought.. yea go for it! I think I'll be pretty happy with this decision in the long run and we'll post my thoughts when I get them.

I'm still going for the 706/806 when the time comes, but I have a different idea at the moment. I realized a few things looking at the back panels of receivers. The Pre-Amp outs are the normal Rca connectors and a lot of them are just labeled as Out. Well, my Aiwa unit itself (minus the speakers) has a couple things in the back including the video/aux in, md in, and an Out (using rca connectors). Something tells me this can be used as a pre-out. Which works wonderfully for me. I can skip out on the receiver for the moment being since I will be only using two speakers. One step at a time :)

I figured I should be looking at amps as a more important factor for these. And that is where I am at now. Looking for amps! And I guess this is where I ask what ones are more preferred and which names to stay away from. I'm still thinking two chan or three chan or just attempt to find a 5 chan to have it done with. This all depends on price of course. I think i can probably find a good deal on the flea market or ebay. Really trying to keep the price under $450 which is why I'm going used or refurbished.

Oh and just in case the Aiwa doesn't work as a pre-out. I forgot that I had a pre-amp form klipsch laying around which will work. I'm not a fan of it, but can get the job done. So it all kind of works itself out for the moment.

I wasn't even thinking, but this is getting quite off topic for this forum. Supposed to be speakers! So I'm going to go read up in the other forum. I think I'll go with the Emotiva UPA-2 for now. 185watts x2 at 4ohm. Down the road can add the xpa-3.
