I'm thinking of buying some SDAs from across the country. Would need to arrange packing and shipping. What is the best way to do it, and how much should I expect to pay?:confused:

    Which SDA's? Shipping is a big no unless you get a stellar deal, and you haven't been able to find something local. More likely than not there will be damage to the drivers.

    Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

    Personally I'd wait around until you can find some local. Shipping would be expensive on those...probably a few hundred dollars, depending on which model you're referring to. Not to mention the damage that would almost inevitably be incurred during transit.

    Shipping SDA's isn't a problem if done correctly. All this talk about not shipping them is silly.

    mkatz, contact Craters and Freighters, they are on the web.

    Hey Jesse, Do you know offhand if they remove and protect the drivers, or are they just gentle enough to not rock the magnets out of kilter? I moved my SRS 2's as gently as possible on foam rubber, never hit a bump, used a refrigerator dolly, etc. and still seized up 3 out of 8 :eek:.

    Now, this is something wrong in there. May be your drivers are about to die. I've moved two pairs of carver amazing in the back of my VAN on my own and no problem whatsoever. They are about 100LBs each and for the recent pair I bought, I've driven for more than 850 miles round trip to get those and no problem whatsoever. :eek:

    Does it mean that the old polks are prone to vibrations and easy to get damage?
    Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone. :redface::biggrin:

    I'm sure they would remove them and pack them separately, but I don't think it's necessary. I had a pair shipped from coast to coast with no problems. A few months back I delivered a pair to NC in the back of an SUV without the boxes, no problems.

    Are you sure those 3 drivers were working to begin with?

    I am not absolutely sure. I took the seller's word for it prior to picking up. They were in a tizzy moving out when we got there and the speakers were no longer hooked up. Dumb Rookie mistake :mad:, but one you only have to learn once!

    There was no interconnect either and only 1 of the 3 bad was a stereo driver so they may not have even known by listening as 3 of 4 drivers and all 4 tweets would have been working.

    I had visited this forum and had learned enough to ask the seller to gently depress the passive radiator. She reported everything was moving with no raspy sounds. She was the original owner's 25 year old daughter helping him out as he had just had back surgery. They were really nice folks (he was a doctor prior to his disability) and it was such a specific question that I can't imagine she lied, but I guess anything is possible.

    At any rate, I know now to check any future purchase in the field before I load them up :)

    Ben,

    I'm looking at SDA SRS 2 on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120366013446

    What do you think is a fair price? I've contacted craters and freighters for a quote (thanks F1nut)

    don't know a fair price but the huge shipping cost would play a factor for me.

    No offense, but you did read this part of that auction and contact the seller to confirm that this is even a possibility?
    This part of the auction stands out to me "FOR LOCAL PICKUP ONLY FROM ATLANTA, GA 30068. WON'T SHIP."

    wish i could be more help.
    Luck,
    Tal

    I noticed that too...they said they didn't want to ship them. Local pickup only. It would probably cost a lot to have a company come and crate them for you.

    Georgia's not that far from New Jersey. Make a roadtrip out of it.

    I purchased these the Sunday before Thanksgiving and today have 125 hours of burn in on them after a FULL restoration . . .

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74946

    Paid
    $450 --- Philadelphia (SDA SRS 2 - Mint Cloth & Solid Oak, but no IC cable)
    $ 10 --- Refrigerator dolly rental
    $150 --- 925 mile 1 day road trip tolls, fuel, food for my wife and I
    $ 40 --- Blade/Blade IC from Polk
    $196 --- 4 new RDO194-1 Tweeters
    $-50 ---- Sold SL2000 tweets in Club Polk For Sale
    $196 --- 4 new MW6509 6.5" Drivers (3 were bad)
    $274 --- Sonicaps and Mills high pass / Aeons for low pass
    $ 33 --- Cardas CCGR Speaker Cable Binding Posts
    $150 --- Labor for crossover upgrades
    $ 25 --- Dynamat
    $ 10 --- Mortite

    TOTAL: $1,484

    I'm not certain if I nuked the 3 MW6509's because I didn't check on site when I picked up, but I believe I did. The cost would have been $1,288 without replacing as 2 pairs.

    These speakers in their current condition are worth every bit of $1,500 to me, but in retrospect I wish I had waited for 2.3TL's. I probably could have purchased similar 2's for $400 WITH the IC so maybe I overpaid by $90. My Cabs and cloth were mint so take that into account.

    Also, my transport cost of $150 was naturally higher than if you buy locally.
