Newbie wiring question-RTi6

I just bought a new pair of RTi6s and hooked them up to my old Rotel receiver using a single wire hookup with bare wire to the bottom speaker terminal. I just played a CD and it sounds like the tweeter is not even playing, like the sound is underwater. Pretty bad sound. Should I hookup the receiver to the top speaker terminal instead? What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? (I like to play crunching metal and some classical from time to time).

do you have the gold connector between the two terminals? if not you're either putting power to the tweeters only or the woofers only depending which terminals you connect to.

Ditto on making sure there's a tight connection. I had the exact same problem when I first hooked up mine (even called polk about it).

There are jumpers which tie the two right channel connectors together, as well as tying the two left channel connectors together at the rear of the speaker cabinet. One set of binding posts is for the woofer, and one set is for the tweeter. If the metal jumper is loose or has shifted out fom underneath the "five way" post, you will lose the tweeter, since your speaker cable is not making connection. Check the jumpers, readjust, ad give them a try. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I will check the connections when I get home today. So does it really matter which terminal (top or bottom) I connect my receiver to as long as the connector is in place securely?

On the speaker it doesn't matter as long as the jumpers are in place. Also be sure you didn't cross polarities...
