Just read this article, don't worry, you can be proud to be an American again!

Do you believe this tripe?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/15/AR2009011504008.html?wprss=rss_world

Now I'm not caring about anything political that might be associated with this.

My problem is thus. The rest of the world is now saying we are “enlightened” and we “can be proud to be from America now” and just the statement that we are “enlightened” is hypocrisy to a gross degree. Why? Because having the attitude that a school teacher in Prague is somehow a better person on November 4th, 2008 than she was on November 3rd, 2008 because some guy got elected in a country that held an election she likely didn’t even vote in is not really an “enlightened” state of mind nor is it a very flattering position from which to be making such judgments of an entire country of people.

Trying to keep this as apolitical as possible, but look at the URL. That's all the explanation you need.

Bob, what are you saying? Are you claiming that there's some sort of media BIAS in this country?:p

BTW, maybe the whole world would like us better....if we pulled out of the UN & NATO, and closed our CHECKBOOKS!

The whole article just kind of pissed me off tbh. Werent proud to be an American? GTFO, we dont want you here.
BTW, maybe the whole world would like us better....if we pulled out of the UN & NATO, and closed our CHECKBOOKS!

No freakin crap! Im tired of reading in the USA Today about how foreign peoples dont like us because were not helping them or we're helping the wrong people or we're not involved enough. I say screw it all...just pull all funding from everything and let the rest of the world worry about their damn self.

Screw the rest of the world. Half want to be us and the other half wants to kill us.

Like Obieone said...I wonder how enlightened they will think we are if we stop writing checks.

Well, it'll be hard to keep this from getting political, so I don't expect the thread to last very long, but I have found most Europeans to be fundamentaly pro-American, including the French BTW, and not just President Sarkozy, who is far from unique (remember he spent his holidays here?). I have never seen anything like the Freedom Fries thing in France directed against Americans, despite several prolonged visits there, and the whole anti-French period here (which still lingered in presidential campaign comments) was going on even though elite French troops were already present in Afghanistan and some have also been killed there. On a side note, France is also a young republic, which threw out the royalty in dramatic fashion, and sent us the statue of liberty in recognition of their empathy.

The outgoing administration did ruffle a few feathers, for sure, and the new administration, whether you agree with it or not, is new, per se and may be seen as a sign of the possibility of better relations to come in the future - not necessarily because there were strong anti-American feelings in Europe IMO, but because it was perceived that there were strong anti-European feelings in America (other than the British public, perhaps, who, oddly enough, had just as many misgivings about American foreign policy as anyone else in Europe).

Just my $0.02! Now, let's see how long the thread lasts!

Wow Kex...so far that is one of the better posts I have read on CP in the last few months.

I could say more but I chose not to. We all have our own opinions. But we can never properly discuss them here without feelings getting hurt. I will say that I was very glad to see the dignity in which GWB left the White House. Much more classy exit than when the Clintons left. I really think it speaks volumes to what what kind of people the Bush's are, like them or not.

Dead on. Dignity is the perfect word to describe the former president and his wife, Laura . Despite the gross disrespect of the left for the president he never got down in the gutter where they love to live. He had beliefs and responsibilities he took seriously and did what he truly believed was the right thing to do despite the 8 years of attacks from the Democrats and their best pals in the mainstream media.

Bottom line is we were kept safe for 8 years after we were attacked on 9/11. What will happen now with this totally inexperienced and MANUFACTURED celebrity politician in the WH? I don't know but what I do know is the bad guys are laughing their butts off at us right now.

    Well ..........

I can only hope that my sons and grandson grow up to be half the man that George W Bush is.

Hopefully my granddaughter will manage to meet someone when she grows up that has the character and intelligence of George W. Bush.

I truly wish the same for you and yours.

I hope that my kids grow up to have 1/10th the character of Ronald Reagan...

As far as being proud to be American, well I must say that over the past couple of weeks I have witnessed more media bias than I ever thought existed... but no matter what anybody says about this nation, I will always be proud to be called an American regard less of who sits in the white house. If I do not support the policies of a particular administration it is my constitutional duty to voice my opposition and to help change those policies by voting for those that share my beliefs or running for office myself and change things... In dealing with foreign powers it is incumbent upon all Americans to unite in support of our President whether we agree with him or not. Unfortunately todays media has TREASON confused with freedom of the press....

Right, and they also have convinced the sheeple in great numbers that somehow it is their DUTY under the Constitutional AND it is patriotic to release to the enemy undercover programs that are being used against them and to keep us safe..

I will give GWB credit for the dignity in which he handled the transition. I hope that model is adopted for all future hand-overs from one President to the other.

It's fair to say that every President will make mistakes and step in some pretty hefty piles of $%#&. I truly hope that Obama can lead us thru the mess that BOTH sides got us into. I won't agree with some of the things he will do, but we all need to accept their really isn't a historical road map to follow, this economic quicksand is new.

For those Americans who BOOED GWB when introduced at the inaugeration - your support is not needed in the US of A. Although, the US of A will most likely support your needs such as a safe place to live, best place to live on this planet, freedoms not recognized elsewhere; take a close look at your surroundings and look at other depressing countires and decide for yourself if you could do bettere elsewhere. I did not vote for Barak but I will support him through good time and bad. It is a team effort. There is no ME in team but there is a U in suck.

That picture and speech was GWB at his best (IMHO his finest hour), too bad he put too much power and faith in Cheney, Rowe and Rumsfeld, and against Powell, Whitman, and the others who had opposing views in his original cabinet.
