On the brink of SDA SRS (long)

First time poster long time lurker. I am wrestling over whether or not to pull the trigger on some SRS (originals) in my area. First some background: I went from SDA 1B's to a pair of mint 1-c's a few years ago. Like most everyone, I love, love, love these speakers. I upgraded the tweeters to 194's but have done nothing else. They are the sugar in my coffee, the salt in my stew. So naturally I want to upgrade.

Now I am finding out about a set of original SRSs. They are not in primo shape. Anyway, here are my pros and cons on me stepping up and buying them:

PROS

1. Rare opportunity: I live in the wilds of upstate New York. How often will I find a pair of SRS within driving distance?
2. Transformative quality sound: If my 1-c's sound as good as they do, how much better will the SDA SRS sound? Gotta find out!
3. Good Price - less than $1K
4. I probably could get my money back if I want to resell them
5, THEY ARE COOL
6. If I don't do it, I will be grumpy, moping around the house and regretting it for a long time.

Now, here are the CONS:

1. Too big for my listening space. I can only give em around 20" clear on each side for SDA effect. My SDA 1-c"s are already kind of pushing it.
2. It's a five hour round trip to get em. IF they're nice enough. I've got a young kid and this is really a hassle.
3. The condition is not great. At least four of the drivers have pushed in dust caps. All the tweeters look OK in the pictures, but I will probably replace those in any case. The side cloth and the grille covers are rough.
4.True condition of the drivers is unknown - Are any seized up? The owner says there are a few "pinholes" in the passive driver. Of course this must be sealed up. Silicone maybe? How much is a new passive driver, if its available?
5. The purchase of the SRS takes $$ I could put into a beefier amp to drive my 1-c's.
6. They are the first version of the SRS, before all the later improvements. Should I hold out, hoping for some nice TLs someday?
7. I am actually really happy with my 1-c's.

So there it is. What do you guys think I should do?

Keep your 1C's; upgrade the crossovers and you will have a new (better) set of speakers. Maybe buy another amp, pre, SACD player.....

The big boys need a big room. You'll spend close to $500 just to upgrade the tweeters. No passive radiators available. Based on your comments, it seems they have not been treated right. You might get some unpleasant surprises. 1C's are some of the best SDA's.

    Welcome.

I have gone too large with SDA's in too small a space. Not a good thing at all. The 1C's are highly respected among SDA's. Do the XO's.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I disagree, I would check them out first before making a decision and if the cons are all true offer him about $500. Bring cash and count out the money in front of him. That really works.

As you said you could get the $500 back later.

I have to agree as well. We have a couple of different sda's in my family and the big ones belong in a room that can handle them. I would spend the money on making the ones you have sound better. ( amp, xo's, etc...)

I am also in upstate NY. I know how hard it can be to find these things!

I sent regrets to the seller. This group helped a lot! And my x-overs will soon be winging their way to Ben.

This place is a wonderful resource.

    You made the right decision.

Does anyone know where I can get replacement drivers for the SDA SRS 1.2TL -- everything except the Passive Radiator??

Thank God I have kept my SDA's in top shape,I give it an A- bought them in 1988. I admit,my room is too small for them width wise, but length,it's okay.but the sound is awesome with The MIT Shotgun IC's, Speaker cables and the new tweeters. The music just wraps around you.yes, even in my small living room. I wish I knew how to up-grade The XO's myself.one day,I may take the time to learn.
