tsi 500 and Denon AVR 987

I've never quite understood why the amp or other amps have an A and B channel.
So now with the Tsi 500s, do I wire them bi-amp (removing the strap) to the A/B channels, or do I just single them to the A channel.

If I understand you correctly you are wanting to bi-amp your mains (TSi 500) using your surround back l/r, if that is the case there are differing opinions on what you might achieve by doing this. Some people have said there is a noticable difference while others have said it isn't worth the cost of the extra speaker wire. Only way to tell is to try it yourself and see, most important thing to remember is to remove the jumper on the back of your speakers, which it sounds you are already aware of. Also, keep in mind that bi-amping through your AVR will not double the amount of power going to your speakers, like you would imagine it would. If you want to go ahead with bi-amping through your AVR, make sure you use the front l/r channels for your tweeters and use the surround back l/r for your woofers. There should be better detailed information in your manual for bi-amping your speakers. The best way to get more power to your speakers is with an external amp, which if I am correct your AVR has pre-outs for just that purpose. Hope this helps and the real experts may have better info for you, and welcome to Club Polk.HT Rig

I think what he's wanting to do is Bi-amp them with the A and B outputs for the front channels. As far as I know, you can't do that. There are receivers that let you bi-amp using the surround back channels, like Wutadumsn said, but it has little to no gains because it's still drawing power all from the same amplifier. The amp can't mysteriously double it's output or anything. You'd still be driving them with the same amount of power.
Those A and B outputs are there so that you could hook up a second pair of speakers in a different room if you wanted, or if you wanted to have two different pairs of front channel speakers in the same room to switch between.
Bi-amping is a much different process involving multiple amplifiers and crossovers. Just plug them into the A channels on your receiver. Either pair of binding posts on the back of the speakers are fine as long as the jumpers are in place. The nirvana inducer-

Thanks guys. I've always thought A + B was used for multiple rooms/different speaker setups, but when I was reading about bi-amping, I just confused myself.
What I'll do since I just have the AVR and no external amps, is just the standard hookup from the AVR's A channel, to the speakers with the strap in place.
Awesome. Thanks again. I'm psyched for this. -
I have the same denon avr 987 and using nads to power the mains at the moment and the avr to power the rest of the 7.1 system. I have it right now set up as 1 nad 126 amp powering a pair of polks but these are brigeable and someday ill have some real speakers that can handle that kind of power and use 1 for each fromt speaker.
The denon for me has been a great amp. I have the paradigm in walls and the polk front 3 in use right now and im using 2 subs and for me its great but seeing some of the setups on the forum is just ok. But for now its respectable.Polk RM40T Mains
