I'll definitely agree with that. 10,000 days is one of my favorite Tool albums...I guess they all are though really. Aenima, and Opiate are my favorites, followed closely by Lateralus and 10,000 days though.

Tools albums are like a progression over time. Each one has a different deeply seeded meaning...they don't put their intentions right on the surface where you can find them easily though. You really have to dig for them...

I've seen Tool four times...and every time was better than the last.

"10,000 Days" on SDA's is a must hear.

I could imagine...I wish I had some SDA's to listen to it on. I bet any Tool album would be phenomenal on SDA's. Oh well...I'll get to experience the uber-badassness of SDA's in my own home someday. I've heard some SDA1C's before...didn't get to check out any Tool on them though.

They need to release all the Tool albums on SACD...why hasn't this been done yet?

I didn't catch NIN on their last tour unfortunately. Didn't really have the money at the time. Oh well, I'll catch them the next time their around. I saw them once when I was like 15...that was one of the first real concerts I ever went to...it was an awesome show.

Well...I see your point there, but Lateralus was still one of my favorite Tool albums even before I ever saw that video. So yes...the song is still great. At least in my opinion.

It depends...there's plenty of mindless pop music out there. Some people are content to disengage their brain completely when listening to music. Others enjoy the mental stimulation.

Some bands (like Tool) appeal more to musicians. One of my old bands used to cover 46&2. Quite a fun song on drums!

It's refreshing when a song/album is cleverly put together. Tool is one of the few modern bands that have incredible musicianship and thought provoking lyrics. IMO, it was a strong enough song at face value before I saw the video. Now it's still a good song, and a great conversation piece.

I also went to the last Tool tour. By far the best concert I have witnessed since Rush in the 80's.

And Maynard was spot on with his very dry sense of humor. He does not say much, but he had some really weird comments during the show. Just like in this clip below...."Wake the **** Up!"

That's one of the things I like about Tool. They don't write their music to appeal to the masses...they write it to appeal to the people that are going to take the time and look at what it really is. Sure, they do have a lot of catchy songs, that have been extremely popular, but they are by no means a mindless pop/rock band like so many of them are today.

There's a major lack of good music in the mainstream these days...it just seems like it's all the same crap over and over again. Tool is one of the bands that goes against the flow. They're doing what they want to do...and saying what they want to say. Not what their manager thinks they should say, and thinks they should play.

That's ironic you should say that, one of my old bands used to cover 46&2 as well. That was back when I was like 16...that was an awesome song to cover. I'm not a drummer though...guitarist here.

Actually this video is a perfect example of why I like the later Tool albums less than the first three.

Opiate was raw and aggressive. Undertow showed more of a sophistication and musicianship combined with groove and power. Aenima was the culmination of the three albums and was amazing.

After Aenima, they steered away from the music that seemed to tap directly into my emotions and began writing math rock. I don't care if a song is in 9/8/7. What I loved abut some of the earlier Tool songs is that they seemed to reserve a direct line into my emotion center. The power seemed to sweep me away and the lyrics were intelligent enough to make me think. They weren't always 4/4 and yet with the melody and vocals, you didn't notice it.

On Lateralus it's hard not to notice the timing. 10,000 days came back toward the feel-driven music a little.

Don't get me wrong, Tool will always be one of my favorite bands. "toolshed.down.net" was my homepage. As I posted in another thread (that I have an inkling might have prompted this post) I've seen Tool 5 times.

I definitely saw a change from the first time (with 300 people), to the last time (a few months ago with 15,000 people). The Maynard that used to come out with an amazing presence that DEMANDED your attention was replaced with a Maynard that hid behind video screens and in dark sections of the stage - only to appear when he had something introspective to say.

There's a world of difference between "There used to be a bunch of **** that lived in this part of the building, but we systematically removed them like you would any termite or roach" to "I want to take you to a special place".

I'm not saying their last albums suck. Any Tool album is better than all the N' Sync albums combined. I'm saying that I don't enjoy them as much as the first three.

Tool, did I hear someone say they like Tool???? This is the song that introduced me to J.M.K. Very hard to find tape that was released in 1987 called Fingernails by Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty. I found it at Tower records in San Fran back in the late 80's/early 90's. Played this tape till it wore out. A blast form the past for sure.

I've seen video of this band and it almost sent me to counseling. The sight of Maynard James Keenan jumping around in spandex with a mullet damn near killed me.

I can't comment on the musical aspect as I couldn't hear the music over my own screaming.:D

I never saw any of the videos back then, just listened to the tape. But, I have watched the videos since and I agree that it's a sight to see.......if you like the mullet, lol. A look that never needs to be repeated throughout history, once is enough, lol.

Tool has been one of my favorite rock bands since about 1993 when I first heard Undertow. Went back and got Opiate. Bought every album since then within a week of release. Don't listen to them as much these days, but there used to be a time when I didn't go more than a week without listening to them. Their videos have always been disturbing, but extremely creative.
