Subwoofer Volume?

So...If you let your receiver handle the crossover frequency you dont need the subwoofer (a la the frequency knob) to do it. How does this work when it comes to volume? Would you set it all the way up (or down) on the Sub and adjust the level through the receiver or vice versa?

It all depends on the receiver you have. I set my sub at 75% and then ran Audessey and it set it and the other speakers together so they blend.
My current setup is -4db on the receiver and 75% on the sub. You shouldn't run the sub turned up all the way. If you run the sub out to the subs LFE channel then you can use the receiver to adjust the frequency.

Don't know about any other sub than HSU and SVS but in most cases they recommend setting the sub volume at 25-30% on sub. You could use a RS SPL meter and set your receiver up to send test tone with AVR sub level set at -5 to 0 and adjust volume on sub until it matches outputs of you mains, YMMV.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

I helped setup my brother's HT sub by playing a few films at the normal levels (or a little above) and setting the sub level to the level of the mains. It so far has worked for everything including music but with the receiver gain at 0 db we have room to add or subtract from the sub levels if we need them.Someone once told me that if I didn't turn my music down I'd be deaf by the time I was 30. Well I'll be 30 soon and I can still hear just fine.
