Psw1000 boomy help

Hello,
Not sure if my placement off or set up is off but my psw1000 sounds really boomy. I currently use the lfe input with the volume at 12 o clock, frequency set to 80hz and phase of 0. Is the boomyness the nature of the sub is this sub capable of tight bass? I tried lowering the volume but the boomyness won't go away till the volume is nearly 0.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards,

I'm not sure what the problem is but I can tell you for sure the sub is not boomy.

A lot of boominess can depend on your positioning of the sub. Make sure it's free standing (not in a cabinet or anything) and preferably in the corner of a room. Also if it's possible, have to port (not the actual driver) firing into the wall. Sub's can sound entirely different depending on their placement in a room.

I run mine off the front pre-amp outputs. It is in the center of the room in front of the TV. There is no boominess, but solid chest pounding bass. On Master and Commander with the volume cranked the cannon shots are literally felt. The sub volume is less than 1/2 up, and the low pass filter is between 60 and 120.

That is another way to hook up a sub. Set all speakers to large, of course you need speakers that are full-range, and leave the LFE circuitry off. When you use the AVR to separate the signal going to the speakers you are putting filtering circuitry into the signal path. This can introduce distortion. All the signal needed for the sub is available on the front pre-outs.

"Boominess" is generally a room/placement issue more than the sub woofer. You probably have some serious room gain in the 40-60 Hz region in your room. Also, if you have an SPL meter it would be useful to measure your sub's level relative to your mains. You may be running it rather hot if you are trying to ear it.

I agree with geek. Placement is almost always the culprit when it comes to boominess.
