You might want to pop the passive radiator to get an eyeball on the crossovers to make sure they match the schematic values if you are going to do the highly recommended crossover upgrade. Some are also upgrading the Interconnect Connection to Cardas and going with custom silver wire based Interconnect Cables with superior resultsVTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

Congrats!
They are 6ohm. . .
Hi Sal,
Do you have a manual or something other than what I referenced. It's confusing in that it shows nominal 4 ohm, low of 3.9 ohms, but 6 ohms over much of the range.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

What did the previous owner do to the binding posts?JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
:)the binding posts were broken off, missing the plastic lock nuts and basically abused. I replaced them with banana plug posts and replaced the original sda terminals with an rca jack. my next step is to replace the top and bottom caps with solid cherry wood caps with a piano gloss finish and recover the grills. as far as the side panels i was thinking about running a strip of cherry from top to bottom about 6 inches wide on the back edge and recovering the remaining side area with grill cloth.
as far as the ohm rating, just so i understand, they are four ohm speakers on mon/wed/fri and 6ohm on tue/thu/sat and sunday should be a day of rest?
thanks for your assistance and support guys:p

1B's and 1C's are not the same. They use different drivers.
Why the concern about what the Ohm rating is?
They are 6 Ohm nominal. They do go lower in the lower frequencies but as the word nominal means................the rating is an average over the entire freq range.

P.s. Did you read the article link in post #2; that will answer your question plus a whole lot more."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. That Yammy won't do them justice. I know it's all you have right now but don't play it too loud and start saving for better amplification. The 1C's will open up and sound 100 times better with quality amplification and a receiver just won;t do them justice.
Enjoy

Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I just sold my Lsi15 this weekend and was finally brave enough to move my 1C to the living room. My wife didn't freak out but I was very pleased with how they sound. I got 1C months ago and never even attemp to hook them up. Mine are stock but in very good condition. I can't even imainge what they sound like upgraded.Main Gear
Panasonic 50" Plasma, Polk LSi15 (Front), LSiC, LSi7 (Rear), Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080, AM-9080 bi-amp to LSi15, AM-9080 bi-amp to LSiC and LSi7. -
I can't even imainge what they sound like upgraded.
I've done tweeter/xo upgrades on two sets of SDA's so far, and the improvement is spectacular.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

both cabinet tags state sda1, and no reference made to a,b or c models
the crossovers are quite large and rectangular in shape as shown in the pictures.... ok how the @#!$ do I upload pictures... they are all about 2meg and the system allow 512k. how do i get them into a submittable format?

I use photobucket to upload my pics. Then I just take and insert the link into the add image button. This works very well.

No, I didn't mean for you to think that you had 1B's. When you described your XO to me, I said that it sounds like my 2B XO.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

Wtf, looks like a PB SRS2 crossover."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
-
It's definitely the same board as my 2B XO, although I see a cap in the C2 position, and resistors in R2 and R3 that aren't present in the 2B's. Here's one of the XO's I pulled from the 2B (before I started taking it apart):
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
Also looks like there are two extra inductors, one in the location where mine has a ceramic resistor standing up next to C5.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

P/B SRS 2.
