Hey there... Looking to pick up a pair of rt55i's. I'm located near Chicago, so local would be great, but am willing to pay for shipping if it doesn't cost too much. I don't want to use ebay, I'd rather buy here because at least the people here seem to care about their equipment, and it's a community. Ebay is just buying from a stranger. Thanks in advance!!

Ebay pricing on these varies a lot, and can be quite pricey at times (as high as $300). Shipping them will not be cheap either: they are big and heavy (built like a tank). I posted a response to you in a similar thread, but finding a local deal on these would really be ideal for you IMO.

my problem is i paid $600 for them new like 8yrs ago i still have the box's,Manual,Registration card, and they still look like i just got them they are flawless. so to sell them for like $200 to $300 just kills me. so my plan is to use them in the livingroom upstairs.

Just check your local craigslist.com and you should get lucky eventually. Remember to check for tweeter damage though, even if these can be replaced

Yeah, I've been watching for a while now and there have been at least two sets that I can remember. One set I drove out to pick up, and the people never showed up. The other I couldn't get in time due to work. What should I be looking for as far as the tweeters are concerned?

They frequently get dented by less than careful owners. They should still work, if the jumpers are in place and properly tightened (between the binding posts, on the rear of the unit), but sound dispersion is affected and they should really be replaced. It's probably about $75 or so to get the replacement, and it may be a substitute rather than the exact identical tweeter. It's not a reason to back out of the sale, but it is a negotiating tool, as are torn or plucked grille cloth, broken grille retaining pins, scratches and dents, missing jumpers (very easy repair) ... I would also check that the drivers move freely when you push them gently from the front (do not touch the dome in the center) and that the binding posts are secure (not wobbly or loose).
