Center channel for SDA 1B or LSi 15
I have a yamaha RX-V2700 and two pairs of Polk speakers....LSi-15 and vinatge SDA-1B. I would like to get a center channel for HT and was considering a CSi-A6 (cant use a lsi since my yamaha only has 4 ohm output for speaker mains...all others limited to 6 or 8 ohm). I enjoy the sounds from both the LSi and SDA (but I think I like the sound from the SDAs a bit better) so I switch them out frequently. Any advice regarding a center channel is appreciated...size of center channel is not an issue.

There's a guy on the forum that uses the CSI a6 with his SDA 1c's and he says they sound great together

Thanks Lee. I am considering using my LSIs for HT upstairs. Downstairs I have a room that I am cosidering as making into an audio room...I am planning on placing the SDAs there. I have an exercise room downstairs as well that I am planning on placing the 10Bs. I will be looking for a good amp to drive the 10Bs and another amp to drive my SDAs. Any thoughts?

I have Polk 10Bs and I have tried out a few amps on them. I look at the 10s as a very good entry sounding pair of vintage speakers. I curently have an NAD amp powering them and they sound fantastic. Polk 10b + NAD 2700 amp= one of the best bang for the buck systems around. Here is a link for the amp I am talking about....currently at $100.00 bid- a real steal at this price.

Thanks BigMac...also appreciate the advice on impedance. I can sure use alot since I don't know very much about audio. What do you think is a reasonable upper limit for that amp?

Hi Hobbyguy. Your welcome on the advice. I am still learning myself on all this. There is soooooo much to learn in this hobby it can get insane sometimes. But, I do believe it is worth it because it is free therapy, lol.
I paid $100.00 for my NAD 2400pe thx and $150.00 for the NAD 2700pe thx. I think I got really good deals but now looking back I would pay almost $200.00 for the 2700. I personally really like the sound that the 2700 puts out when paired with the Polk 10b's and my vintage NAD 5100 cd player (I run the cd player straight into the amp). I tend to like my sound on the warmer side of neutral. This combo really lets the music shine through for a very inexpensive budget system. This is my first system since getting back into audio and I lucked into the Polk 10b's by accident. A guy had them listed on CL for a great price; I found this out later after doing some research. Picked up the speakers and the rest is history. I have listened to many other used speakers in the same price range and imo nothing can touch the Polks for the price. Well, I'm sure there are other speakers that may do one thing or another better than the Polk 10b's in that price range but I have not run across those speakers yet.
On that amp there is a switch on the back to put it into THX mode. If you use it you cannot control the volume of the amp from the front knobs. When switched off you can control the volume from the knobs on the front panel. I did notice that when switched on it opened the sound up a little more. What I mean is that everything sounded a little more crisp and musical if that makes any sense. -
Snooze and lose. I missed out on that deal...would a NAD 3150 be ok? Lots of NADs on e-bay ...there is a 216, a c272. Hard to decide which one. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

How would the C272 be to drive my SDAs?

Sorry I did not get back to you yesterday. The 3150 is good for sure but at only 50 wpc I would look at something with more power to get the best out of the 10s. The 3150 will drive the 10s easily but will sound better by far with the C272 or C372. The C272 or C372 would be a great choice for either the 10s or your SDAs. Don't get the C272 on Ebay for the $700.00 BIN price. You can get it for $499.00 at two other places that are highly respected and for $400.00 from AG. Also, Adcom is a great amp as well and is known to have great results when paired up with Polk speakers. There are alot of models but the 545 (not the 545II) and the 555II get the most nods. Of those two the 545 is the more "musical" sounding amp. If you do go with Adcom these amps are known for running hot which is normal. You just need to make sure it has plenty of breathing room and ventilation. There are so many amps that will work great that I'll post a few links to get ya' pointed in the right direction. As you can tell I love NAD,lol.....but Carver,Adcom,Rotel,Emotiva are all good choices depending on the model. Just do a little research to find out which one will suit your needs best.

Lee thanks very much for the offer! I have already pulled the trigger and bought it. I am currently looking for a decent amp to power my SDAs...got lots of good ideas from BigMac. It looks like Adcom or NAD is the way to go. Ever hear a Nakamichi pa-5 stasis?
-
There's a couple local Adcom 555's. Great powerful high current amp that'll push your SDA's and monitor speakers very well.

Local? Where?

Milwaukee Craigslist

That GFA-5802 looks like a good deal.
-
Is that the one on Chicago craigslist?
-
You bet

There's two on there I was thinking about getting the one that's listed at $675 and get the matching 750 pre amp for $550 great deal

I envy you that you can go get them! Let me know how they sound.
