I have an old Polk setup that came with my HP Pavilion 8190. I just bought a new Compaq Presario and there is no sound. Soundcard okay, config okay, power source connected. Any suggestions (other than buying new speakers)?

    Hi...

I'd suggest testing with another set of multimedia speakers, or another sound system (like the aux channel on your stereo, if it's nearby, you just need a connector with a 1/8" plug).

If you're still not getting sound out of another set of speakers, well, then it's your computer...

    Hello,
Thanks for participating in our Forum. I believe the difficulty is your speakers are not self-powered, the audio amplifier is part of the original computer's soundcard. You would have to use an amplified soundcard or an independent audio amplifier.
