SDA2s for home theater

Any recommendations for how to best utilize my SDA2s in a home theater application?
The room size is 25 x 30'.The receiver is rated @110W x 7.
Subwoofer? The budget limits the number to one(for now) .
Would the Polk SurroundBar 50 be suitable in combination with the SDAs for movie watching ?
Thanks in advance,
RT

First get an amp for the SDA's. Myself I like to run them without a center, but this is room dependent. The soundbar will not work well with the SDA's running at the same time.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I would suggest a high current amplifier is possible.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I use them as the L&R in my combo 2 channel HT set up. I think they work pretty well for both. YMMV.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

What wattage would you recommend for the amp? -
Watts is not watts. You need high current. What's your budget? I would try it without a sub for 2 channel, but for HT you would want a sub.

But say it were $500-$600,what would you recommend?george daniel wrote: »are you going ss or tubed?
For $500-$600, isn't it SS or nothing? -
SDA's work very well for HT. My room size is about half of your, you will need separate HIGH CURRENT amplification and a sub. Check and see if your headphone jack turns off the speaker outputs on your receiver. If not you could use that to feed a 2ch amp(until you can afford a decent receiver with pre outs). In my small room I don't use a sub the Sdas dig deep enough, and have enough output for my room, I still get bass that shakes every thing even if you can't hear it:)

I should be able to exchange my Sony STR-DG920 for the STR-DA2400ES,the latter which does have pre outs.
Please no Sony bashing.
Any thoughts on the Onyko M-282 which is a 2-channel amp? -

The only amp I have exp. with is the Adcom 555 and at the used prices here and on the bay they are worth it. -
The budget will be shot since I would have to exchange the new receiver for one with pre-out capability.
But say it were $500-$600,what would you recommend?

nope,, you can get into a tubed pre such as an ELP,,if you can find one.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut) -

That would be the model rated 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms?george daniel wrote: »nope,, you can get into a tubed pre such as an ELP,,if you can find one.
You ain't kiddin with the "if". -
yup, and 325 into 4 which is what the sda's are ( I have SDA 2As) when I first got the 555 I ran it off the headphone jack on my technics avr( no pre outs) made a nice difference, got a little nicer sound after I dumped the technics and went to a denon avr with pre-out. But the Real difference was when I went to the Adcom gfp 555(pre amp) every thing just seemed right, the bass got tighter, and imaging was spot on.

Do you know that the 555s are > a $grand new? -
For HT and 2-channel music, I run my SDA SRS 2.3's (pin/blade) with a Carver M1-5t amp rated at 350 wpc @ 8 ohms. Also, what has helped to open up the sound stage is a custom AI-1 cable (with transformer) built by Ben. I'm in audio heaven with this setup.

I believe the new model is the GFA 555II or the 555SE,not to be confused with the 5500 that oddly has the same power ratings. -
I believe the 5500 uses mosfets where as the old 555 and 555mkII use good old trasistors. I can't remember what the new 555 uses for final amplification.

Thanks for the info.
