Well, it appears as though Circuit City's inflated pricing structure and outdated sales model has finally caught up with them. No farewell tears from me!

I think when they started sharing employees with McDonalds, I knew they were in trouble.
They got rid of their " higher paid experienced empoyees (11bucks/hr.)" and replaced them with 8/hr. pre-teens. Half of the staff in one close to me were under 5ft. and wore braces.

    Best Buy is next.

I love how they tried to save the company by firing all of the highest paid sales people. This one will be in the textbooks for what not to do.

As much as I don't feel bad for them, last time I was in Best Buy demoing the TSis, the salesman told me that they needed the sale so they could put Circuit City out of business. That's just bad mojo...

I think this thread is the thing that's a day late and a dollar short, considering we already have a thread devoted to it

I actually saw an enormous rat scurrying along the showroom floor at a Circuit City in Austin. And, their "clearance" prices were worse than some places retail prices. If you are going to have to be around rats (the rodents themselves and the CC salespeople), you may as well get a killer deal.

Also, at my local DFW CC, there is always a foul odor and NEVER anyone at the registers to check you out, even if you mistakenly choose to purchase something from them. Just a terrible place, through and through. I think they and CompUSA were run by the same managers.

I don't have any problem with BB, though. I know they are a huge sell-everything store, but they have good products, usually nice and clean stores, some good deals here and there, and I like the service. No, they don't add anything technical to the table if you start asking detailed questions, but they are helpful and at least try.

Good riddance to bad rubbish like CC!

    Which Austin store was that?
Most of them around here have been on the downslide for quite a while.
Don't particularly care for BB either but they are going to pick up a lot of average "Joe Don't Know No Better" customers.

I certainly won't miss CC here. It's been a good year since I set foot in there. Would be cool if Fry's came to town though.

They are going to be missed. Not to mention, the 1,000's added to the UNEMPLOYMENT lines.
Now BB has almost free reign. HH Gregg is the only other audio retailer around here.

From a pricematching perspective, it's always good to have another retailer around......

After I bought my TV from Best Buy I got $350 bacck due to price matches.......I'll swing by and see if they have anything I really want.

here in canada, CC runs an outfit called "The Source" which apparently is not part of the parent companys bankruptcy. but its the same scenario:crap products, crap prices, crap service. the bozos working there had no idea the parent co. was going down and insisted it would never happen to them. we'll see.

I was in Houston in November, and one of the local CC stores was closing (League City one). Well, even the local newspaper complained about the prices at that store. Their sale/liquidation prices were sometimes higher than the regular prices in the nearby Webster store.

Agree 100%. I used to work for CCity as an instore pc tech. The managers were all a bunch of crooks. And you're also right, the clearance/open box prices were often times higher than what you could find online. And the whole customer service thing, besides from a few good people at our store, absolute rubbish.

So what brick-and-mortar electronic retailers are left in the USA (chains)? Only BestBuy? I obviously know about Fry's, but it's mostly on the west coast.

We have Future Shop in Canada to "compete" with Best Buy, but both stores are owned by the same company. It's kind of pathetic.

Well although certainly not the first place I think of, Sears does sell some of the stuff that Best Buy sells. Of course I don't think that would include computers, but they have the cameras, a small audio section, a small TV section, a small selection of BlueRay, oh yeah and appliances and vacuum cleaners. I even think Sears sells PS3 and Xbox too right? Well I'm sure Walmart and Target as well as EBGames can take the Console gaming business.

CC is supposedly liquidating....HA! I wastred 60 minutes in that pathetic store, only to find a number of items that were $100.00 to $200.00 above internet prices. Screw CC! Happy to see them leave the scene.

Fairly crappy prices. DSLR cameras, batteries, LCD monitors all were higher than amazon. TV prices were ok.

CC is not liquidating. Their inventory was sold to a liquidation company. Whatever doesn't sell at the "liquidation" price to all the idiots out there will just get moved to the next sale. They are not in the business to give it away.

My father called saying he was about to pick up his first 'big' tv, a 52" sammy LCD. He went to CC, and found what was supposed to be a deal at $2000 + tax. I didn't know what model or features it had, just that it was at CC, so I told him not to pick it up, and to make sure he didn't get charged. I sent him a link for the same TV the next day for 1350+125 for shipping, no tax.
The only downside here in the east is that there really is no reason for BB to have sales. . . there is no competition -except the web.

That's the problem. People who don't actually shop to KNOW what a good price is assumes because they are going out of business that the price is good. PT Barnum was correct.
