What Size Wire for Lsi9's

I have a pair of Lsi9's that will be connected to a Yamaha RX-797 receiver. It's a simple 2 channel system. What recommendations are there for which speaker cables are best suited. What size cable should I looking at. Both the Lsi9's and the receiver have 5 way binding posts. Any recommendations on which one is better. Would I increase the quality of sound if I bi-amped the speakers? As you see I am new to all of this. I am not into home theater, just music via DVD, MP3, XM radio and turntable. Appreciated any and all feedback.

Try AudioQuest or Signal Cable. I have had great experience as other suggests.
You might also want to consider the amp if you are getting serious.

I meant separate amp instead of receiver.
You could use the short piece of speaker wires as jumper instead of bi-wire or bi-amp.

Agree with MKZ - you may want to invest in an amp in the future. Your amp will get mighty hot with the LSi9's and will most likely kick into protective mode. Those things dip down below 4 ohms at times.

I have a pair of LSI9's. I would recommend anything from 9-14 gauge. I run Kimber 8pr bi-wire (2x10 gauge) with a Parasound 2205a and I use the pre-outs on my H/K 354. Don't skimp on wire either, it makes a difference. Try looking into some Kimber Kable it is great stuff.

Thanks for all your inputs. (couldn't resist the pun) I may use my Sansui AU-X901 on the Lsi9's. I have have had it since the early 80's. It's 130 watts, with 4 and 8 ohms capability, a real beast. i will check out the web recommendations for speaker cables and make a decision in the next few days. Again thanks.

Watch for some Audio Quest type 4's in the used market, or look for the AQ type 4 bulk cable. IT can be found cheap if you keep your eyes out.

Have to agee with this statement. I have been a 12 guage stranded wire from the hardware store fan, but after upgrading to these Mapleshade Clearview golden Double Helix Plus cables last weekend I am just amazed at the increase in clarity, range, and overall improvement in sound. I swear it is like upgrading the speakers.

    http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/audioproducts/doublehelixspeakercable.php

A week before I added the speaker cables, I upgraded my digital interconnect to their CLEARVIEW DOUBLE HELIX DIGITAL Plus and it also was a quantom leap forward in sound improvement. Combined with the speaker cables, it produces an such an audio upgrade that I am completely sold on the benefit of using quality interconnects.

    http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/audioproducts/doublehelixdigitalinterconnects.php

Other than my hardware store speaker cable, and some relatively inexpensive interconnects, this is my first experience with 'expensive' cables, and I have to say I am now a believer.

In fact, after one week of my digital interconnect sounding so great I decided to buy the an upgrade that cost twice as much ($400) to see what it does.

I am so happy I found another way to help save our country from a depression.

Bluefox: I did look at those cables at Mapleshade. Seems like it would be worth considering. Wondered about the connectors. Did not see that they were selling them. Where did you get yours from. What type, Banana, etc. Thanks again for the info.

Cheap enough at $4 a foot, and you don't need to terminate them.

They recommend to not terminate speaker cables. However, for a few dollars extra they will provide your choice of terminators. Here come the Arnold jokes. :)

I'll second Blue Fox on the Mapleshades ICs and speaker wire! They are a little (ok, alot) unusual looking but for the dollar a very fine wire.

Just want to add another vote for Signal Cable. I purchased a set of Signal Cable Ultras for my Lsi'9 and was really suprised at the impovement. For the price, I don't think you can do much better. And the customer service is excellent!

Thanks all for your inputs. I decided on AudioQuest Type 4's with banana connectors. Much of the decision was around cost. I hope to upgrade in the forthcoming months.

No doubt there are upgrades from that cable, but that is a great cable to start with and it's going to cost you a lot more to upgrade to the next step.

Bob, curious to know how your Sansui handles the 9's.....I started with that 797 Yammie, didn't run the 9's well at all (my opinion). I put an amp in between, and it made a world of difference.

I put the system together today. To tell you the truth I can't tell a notice much difference between the Yamaha or the Sansui. I'll tell you what though those Lsi 9's are the best sounding speakers I've ever owned. I do believe that those AudioQuests cables make a big improvement as well. So far, so good.
