Stupid Crossover Idea

I was on Audio karma and ran across a post talking about isolating audio components against vibration from sound waves,to the point of adding rubberized sheets to the internals and putting Blu-Tak on capacitors,etc..
Well this makes sense as it regards lazer, tape heads and phonograph, but capacitors??
And if it's true regarding capacitors wouldn't it be a good idea to create sound deadening enclosures for speaker crossovers?
Your thoughts please

I have wondered about that myself. You can tap on those big aftermarket caps, and they ring.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

That is why you sometimes see external crossovers, crossovers in their own compartment, dipped in wax, etc...
More on the subject: http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2008/05/27/aes08-if-the-cap-fits-it-must-sound-better/"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Wilson Audio houses their crossovers in its own box and then the entire box is then filled with resin. I would assume the above idea has played into their design.

As an aside thats what they said about the moon when the Lunar Lander touched down the first time ("The Eagle has landed").Our sensors here on Earth picked up a ring!Conspiratorialists think its a huge alien base.
Anyway - that sounds like a mod I actually can do! -
It would be easy enough to throw any dampening material on the caps as see if it makes an audible difference. You could even use something as easy and as removable as putty just to test the theory.

I've wondered about this also, but no one has ever told me whether the various parts of an XO generate heat and if so, how much. My guess is that if heat isn't a problem then isolating the XOs from vibration might be a very good idea, and if an airtight enclosure is placed over them, then the back of the cabinet could even be vented if heat IS an issue.

The resistors can generate heat, but unless you overdrive the speaker to the point where you would burn them out, you shouldn't have a problem.

No takers on the moon being an alien base comment?Well,i've never heard aliens say they like music either so their must be a disconnect somewhere.."out there!"
-
Sorry, but no takers on your alien moon base. But like you said, they probably wouldn't be interested in HIFI anyway...

Maybe applying a bit of Mortite would be the way to start at it could be easily removed. Using Dynamat Extreme would be a bit more permanent once convinced heat buildup is not a problem and it is a tweak worth performing.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

I have a bunch of different rubberized mat material...for some reason I collect the stuff(you should see my hardware collection!).Should be easy enough to simply detach the crossover, put down a square piece of material, screw the crossover back on,wrap the material to where the corners meet on top, either glue these sectors together or just use some strong tape and youve got an isolation enclosure with enough space to hopefully negate any heat problem...

If we can get them to rock-n-roll,we can turn them on to a joint, next thing you know we'll be Space Truckin! -
