I did not get a lot of response on the choice between the above two speakers I went ahead and ordered the DSW PRO400 in consideration of replacing my 6 year old PSW450.
I received the DWS yesterday and spent a lot of time comparing both it may not be a fair evaluation an 8" vs 12" unit both sounded similar in quality the bells and whistles with the remote is a nice feature of the the 400 but the 450 won out still a very capable speaker the more volume of the tracks it just in a way walked away from the 400 in sound quality.

I will be returning the DWS 400 I explained my delima to Crutchfiled before ordering they assured me no problems on return. I just ordered the A4's, A1's and the A4 center speakers from them which are truly remarkable.

I'll hang onto the 450 for a wile longer it is still a killer of a sub!

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    I wouldn't look into anything in the PSW series myself. The DSW's are some great subs. You might want to look into the DSWPro 500 or 600. The Micopro series is great to.

    There are plenty of other choices outside of Polk as well, that would probably fit the bill much better.

    Have you heard the Micropro series? I see that JR has the DSW1000 8" MicroPro on sale for about $400 with a list price of $1000. I was interested in its performance.
    I'm not too sure about the performance of an 8" subwoofer.

    I've never heard the Micropro1000, I have heard the 3000 and the 4000 though, and they sound awesome. I believe there are a few people around here that have the 1000's though, and are very happy with them. 400 bucks is a great price though...at that price I'd probably jump on it.

    Some other ones you might want to look into though are Velodyne, SVS, HSU, Epik Valor...all come highly recommended.

    Personally I'm going to be buying an SVS PB10-NSD shortly. It's more like 500 dollars, but will probably beat the pants off of most of the Polk subs. 300 watts with a 10" driver. SVS is made in America too, in Ohio. Buying American is always a plus.

    I spent some time Friday sampling various subs including the DWS Pro 500 and 600. I was doing fine until I moved to the Velodyne units.
    I settled on the Velodyne DLS-4000R sub the bass is tight and crisp with no distortion regardless of the level
    I have had the individual on hold who is wanting the 450 so I guess it is gong to a new home it has served me well over the years.
    I ordered the 4000R from Crutchfield should be here by Wednesday.

    Many thanks for the responses.

    Nice, I've never heard that sub myself, but I've always heard great things about it. Let us know how you like it, that's one of the ones I was contemplating getting to, if I don't end up going with the SVS PB10.

    Will give feedback on the sub. It is a bit costly at $599.00. The clarity and crispness is what sold me compared to the others I have listened to.
