Ok.....am I the only person on the planet that thinks this guy is not funny AT ALL?

Maybe the British accent makes people laugh by default, or the audience is fed pot brownies before the show or something, but I have never ever ever heard a single "funny" come out of that man's mouth.

Am I just a jaded ****, or is he really that bad

First, to nitpick, he's Scottish, not British.

And I think he's pretty funny. He's very.... human, which is probably what I like about him (And his show) more than anything else. Human as in not just a g uy up there with a schtick, but someone who actually speaks from the heart a lot. But yeah, I think he's funny.

far as I know, he adlibs and improvs everything, no scripts or team of writers.
    I think he's great.

He got his American citizenship a little while back.
They did a story on him, one Sunday morning, on "CBS Sunday Morning", a few months back. As for being funny, he gets on a roll once in awhile. I like him ok.

To nitpick further, I said British not English. Great Britian includes Scotland, England, and Wales...

Well I guess that settles it then, I am a jaded **** :o

I've tried to dig into his show, but just can't. Didn't know he was all improv/adlib though; interesting...

Another thing that makes him real and human is that he openly talks about his battle with addiction and his jokes never cover those who are "vulnerable" in the news. Like the time he refused to make any joke about Britney Spears when her wheels fall off her wagon back in '07.

Funny or not, the man is sincere, respectful and honest and it brings a certain aire to his program that is very hard to find in today's media even in something that is supposed to be sincere, respectful and honest like a news program.

I watch him because I think he's absolutely nuts and I love it! Also because I have a great deal of respect for someone who can stand up in front of the world every night and do a show that he has no bones about. He takes the high road and has managed to put on a show that has taken so much of the market share for his time slot that it's now starting to eat in to the market share of the other shows that air earlier and run in to his time slot.

Yeah, Craig is awesome and I'm proud that he thought well enough of this country to become a citizen.

He's not a saint, he's just a respectable guy. Not too many of them left in Hollywood. We lost a couple of them last year. Paul Newman was one, so was Bernie Mac and George Carlin and even if you didn't like his politics and convictions, Charlton Heston was another. It's so rare to see a human face in Hollywood looking back that even though it might be bigger than life, you can look at that person and know that they don't think they are bigger than life at all. That's Craig Ferguson. He's like the rest of us, perfectly damaged in his humanity. He's not afraid to say "Hey, I'm just like you!" Only, unlike alot of other celebrities, he means it and it shows.

Honestly it wasn't any of us that made him seem like a saint but your assessment was pretty heavy handed and derogatory. Most people just basically said that you got it wrong dude and showed some reasons why.

Yes, yes it was heavy handed/derogatory. But with good input from those that like him, I am willing to give the show another go with a clean slate.

And I completely agree on your Hollywood assessment...

    Hope I didn't come across as a complete @sshole :/

If you don't find him funny, it's no big deal. I've NEVER found Letterman funny, even back when I did drugs, and drank! I've tried him sober too. He just ain't funny to me. Same goes for Howard Stern, and all of his knock-off's.

Dude, you just don't like his humor, that's fine. He's not everybody's cup of tea. But your original post came off as blaming his lack of funniness as a fault in his character and that those who found him funny were just laughing at the accent.

Give it a chance if you want or don't. The guy's an accomplished comedian, actor and director and he even played in a punk rock band too. He's far from stupid too. So you don't like his funny. So what? There are guys out there that people roll on the floor laughing at their shtick that I just don't find funny at all. That's me. You're you. Be you. But putting down others because they don't fit your ideal just comes off as bad form and leads to the knock-down drag out flame wars.

As far as why I think he's funny, it's the realness as a person. The fragile and damaged self that gives him his fuel for the impact behind his humor. He stared his demons in the face and laughed at them. Now he makes his living telling you about them so you can laugh too. It takes alot for someone to stand up and say "Hey man, I screwed up but I'm still here and I'm a better person for learning from my mistakes." That's the difference between a great comedian and a good one. A great one will identify with you and show you a bit of yourself in themselves without you even knowing it until after you are done laughing and the show is long over.

Argh, definitely not trying to start a flame war; and I didn't intend to point to character flaws as my reasoning.

Good input as to why you find him enjoyable, and gives me a different perspective when I see the show next.

Hah, thanks Brett. Jstas seems like a stand up guy that happens to have strong beliefs and isn't afraid to voice them. No harm no foul.

And I've been around a decent bit, just posting a bit more here lately since I've been working some odd hours in preparation for earnings season/support of our west coast clients.

wow, I'm surprised everyone didn't say they agreed, haha. I never knew there were people that liked that show. I guess he's a nice guy and everything, but I don't find him funny at all either. I don't think leno or letterman are that funny either though, I've always been a conan fan, so that shows my sense of humor.

Ok- I hope at least nobody finds carson daily funny! If so, I must be really conused on what humor is, haha.
