20bit Ultra Analogue?

Saw a Music CD listed with this specification on it.
This is a new one on me!

In my quest for Music Cd's been seeing some new ones I haven't seen before...XRCD....24bit....now this.

Without anyone being sarcastic.....can you explain what these formats mean? :confused: :rolleyes:

    I would guess that it refers to a 20 bit analog to digital converter (ADC) used to digitize the original analog tapes or convert an anolog mix to digital real-time. The 20 bit transfer would then get converted to 16 bit / 44 kHz for CD pressing.

    The other possibility is that it refers to a 20 bit digital recorder used on a pure digital (DDD) recording.

    Was the CD from Telarc?

    The same would apply when you see 24 bit, which is being used more recently.
