From Slashdot:
"It looks like in an act that defies common sense, a bill has been introduced in the South Carolina State Senate that seeks to outlaw the use of profanity. According to the bill it would become a felony (punishable by a fine up to $5000 or up to 5 years in prison) to 'publish orally or in writing, exhibit, or otherwise make available material containing words, language, or actions of a profane, vulgar, lewd, lascivious, or indecent nature.' I'm not sure if 'in writing' could be applied to the internet, but in any event this is scary stuff."

Here is the actual bill:

Our Legislature is full of idiots. They still permit people convicted in a major corruption sting (when the get out of prison) run for re-election to the seat the lost when they were thrown in jail.

This bill will never pass, but they will propose crap like this every year knowing it won't even come to a vote just to get the publicity out of it. (You know, doesn't matter what they are saying about you just as long as they are talking about you.)

Checked my calender to verify it's not April fool's day.
sounds like something taken form www.theonion.com instead of slashdot.
I guess, as usual, those bozos are after publicity:
I mean now I actually know there's a "Senator Ford" doing something in the South Carolina General Assembly. mission accomplished ;)

I don't understand the publicity argument.. Who's going to read that story and say "ooo, I'm voting for that guy"?

If I lived in SC I'd be calling for his resignation and not giving up until I had it.

I'm with you on the "who the hell would vote for that kinda moron?" argument,
but the simple fact is that someone did vote for him. he's probably after the folks that
elected him in the first place.

That's a waste of tax dollars. Paying people to think crap like this up and then waste time debating it. South Carolina has bigger issues they should be concerning themselves with.

Yes Bob, a resignation is in order here. Geez.

Hah, Robert Ford put that up. Not surprising. His district was specially drawn to ensure elections result in the correct type of representation. By trade, I think he is a used car salesman. I wouldn't say he is a respected member of the state senate, but he must be the exact type of representation his constituents look for since they he runs unopposed all the time.

And, yes we do have much more important things to worry about, but we have a legislature full of fools like this that always run unopposed. Stupid carpet baggers permanently wrecked our state.
