I really enjoyed this one and am looking very forward to it. Plus, we get the extended edition which never made it to HD-DVD, all 388 minutes of it.

And on top of that, it's only $19.99.

better grab it while it's cheap, god knows it won't be 20 bucks when it hits the shelves...

The transfer on HD DVD is VERY good, let's hope they don't screw that up

Highly doubt it'll be screwed up. I'll bet at least for the first week of street it'll be $20 but most likely go up after that, maybe.

Most definitely one of the best looking, and best sounding Blu-ray disc's to date. This has some amazing 3D looking imagery. One of the best I've seen, period. The DTS-HD MA track is off the charts, excellent surround usage, base that rocks the theater and details in the track that just envelope you with sound. Damn, this is one impressive Blu-ray disc.

No, it's just under 3.5 hours. BB's web site listed both the theatrical and EE as one total time, thus the 388 minutes. By the time I caught it, it was too late to edit my post.

Darn. I was hoping 3 hours of the extended edition was Naomi Watts running around naked.

I liked the br version really good awesome audio track hidef digest gave the actual movie a really poor rating. Not saying much consideringhe gave some really crappy movies high ratings starship troopers was rated higher than king kong. I liked the campy starship troopers but come on be for real.

Sorry, I would have to agree with Starship Troopers being better than King Kong. It was just people running and screeming and things being thrown around for 3 hours. It was entertaining, and action packed, but nothing special (at least IMO).

And Starship troopers was different, how? People running around yelling and shooting things. :)

Showers. Actually, I liked Starship Troopers. If they only had a more realistic bootcamp, and had the troopers drop with suits then it would have been much, much better. And, that stupid yoke Renee Richards used for steering the ship was ridiculous.

While I enjoyed King Kong, the problem I had with it was I had seen the original so many times that the new version was just a repeat. Nothing new. Granted it looks and sounds great on DVD, but still, it did not really improve on the first. Just like the remake of "The Thing" did not surpass the original.

My comment was just poking fun. I love Starship Troopers.

I've never seen the original Kong, no desire to either. Those old black and white films don't do it for me, at all. The effects are just so darn cheesy I can't take those films seriously. I do love Jackson's Kong though.

Are you being serious? Certainly, as time has gone by, the special effects for movies have improved, but a good movie rises above the technology available at the time. The original King Kong was a great move for me. Maybe it was because I saw it so many times as a kid, and as a kid, everything is believable.

Other great old b&w movies with cheesy effects are "The Thing", "Things To Come", "**** Angels", and, in color, "Forbidden Planet".

What I liked better about Starship Troopers than King Kong was the cheesy dialogue between people running around screaming. The last hour of Kong running around busting things up just didn't do it for me. (Starship Troopers also had Doogie Howser SS. How can you not like that!).

I also think it's a close call on The Thing. I enjoyed the addition of cool effects, and I like Kurt Russell. Although the shot in the original of them finding the ship really did have something special about it.

Kudos on Forbidden Planet. Hope they don't try and ruin that one with a remake.

Am I the only one who thinks the cgi in king kong was terrible? I was laughing the first time I saw it, I could just not get into it. King Kong looks alright, but the action scenes like running from the dinosaurs and fighting and stuff, looked almost 90's to me... The transfer of this movie is amazing- truly reference quality, but the movie itself I just can't get into. I thought the acting was weak, bad cgi, and jack black?...eh...

They are remaking ghostbusters and the terminator?! What is the world coming to... Add Friday the Thirteenth to that list too (not that it was a classic or anything, haha). Also every single horror movie that comes out these days, since they're all remakes of asian horror films.

Is it me, or is this the decade of the remake? I was probably too young in the 80's to know, and in the 90's I don't remember there being as many remakes as there are now.

I bought king kong when it first came out on dvd. Watched half of it, thought it sucked, and threw it out. I'm surprised so many people like it. Oh well, different strokes I guess ;)

I don't think they are remaking Ghostbusters, i think it's actually going to be a part 3 with all four original actors. All though it seems that they will introduce new up and coming Ghostbusters, with the original guys being mentors or something. At least that's the buzz on the internet anyways.

    http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38496

And the new Terminator coming out isn't a remake either, it's actually set in the future during the war when John Conner is an adult. I don't think it looks bad at all, but i'm not very critical in regards to movies usually either, i'll give anything a shot.

As far as King Kong goes, i enjoyed that movie and saw it a few times. Not sure i could sit through it again for the sake of seeing it on bluray though, maybe sometime down the road or something.

I personally like remakes though, i have no problem seeing a fresh take on an old movie. If it's good it's good, if not, well i won't lose any sleep over it. :)
