DULUTH - After Hayward, Wis., electrician Timothy Brueggeman froze to death while sleepwalking barefoot in his underwear Monday night, authorities were initially baffled.
"How in the hell can a guy walk out in 20-below zero and not wake up?" Sawyer County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said he asked himself. Going through Brueggeman's bedroom, investigators found a possible answer -- a bottle of Ambien.

It worked fine for me when I had to take it for a short time. But then I don't have a problem with sleep walking, I only took it at night, I don't have a car & if I did I wouldn't have driven it.
Alot of it is just following the instructions as written.
Well except for sleepwalkers, I guess they are just out of luck.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
The problem isn't with sleepwalkers, it's that for many one of the side effects is sleepwalking, even for those who do not have a history of it. It's a very serious problem. Plenty of drugs, when taken exactly as the instructions state, still have dangerous side effects. Just because it didn't affect you doesn't mean it isn't real or seriousIf you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I tried Ambien for a couple nights and I had some pretty wicked dreams. I will never take it again.

I totally believe you, and that's the scary part. One lady I talked to just woke up in here car at the local transit center at 3:00am. She had taken it as directed and didn't have a history of sleep walking. People have no memory of the things they do; eating, talking, walking, driving. And not to mention the crazy dreams everyone reports... -

Thats just plain down right scary............... -
I dispense Ambien all day long. I've never heard any of these crazy stories from my customers.
I promise you, the majority of them anyways, those that end up driving their car to god only knows where, have been drinking before or after or have taken more than the prescribed amount. -

Never understood the need for a sleep aid, but I have noticed when I don't workout, I don't get sleepy as early. Is the increased need for sleep aids tied to america's reduction in daily exercise, or is there something I am missing. Only time I have trouble sleeping at night is if I drink coffee or tea after 8:00 pm or if I eat a very sugar laden dessert just before going to bed. -

It is amazing how much of a difference one hour of exercise makes in a night sleep. -

I think you hit on most of them. Poor diet, lack of excercise, excessive caffeine and sugar. Same for anxiety problems (which I have plenty of and noticably go down when I take care of myself) and other stress illnesses. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Insomnia is one of the most common ailments around. Exercise, caffeine, etc. can play a part, but its not even close to the sole contributor/cause of insomnia. -

I guess that is what I was getting at...what really causes insomnia. Is insomnia a result of behavior/life style or uncontrollable like many forms of cancer? -
Its usually a result of stressors (psychological), but can sometimes be purely organic.

I was on ambien for a couple weeks right before I was diagnosed with my cancer.. I hated it but i was not sleeping worth a crap and it did help me get some much needed rest.. I never woke up cooking an omelete though..

My wife and I both use the cheapo sleep aid from wal mart, it's just the same antihistamine compound in benadryl that a lot of parents give to kids to knock em out for a while. Our doctor say's it's THE safest way to help you get to sleep. YMMV I'm much too lazy to ever sleepwalk;)

Unfortunately, that won't work for me or others who have to take allergy meds 365 days a year.
So if I ever had trouble sleeping again, I would need something like Ambien to get the job done.My wife and I both use the cheapo sleep aid from wal mart, it's just the same antihistamine compound in benadryl that a lot of parents give to kids to knock em out for a while.
