T90E's or Monitor 40's?

I currently am in the market for new speakers. I wanted the Monitor 70's as Newegg had them for 199 per speaker with free shipping. They are now discontinued. I am going to purchase two T90e's instead as I understand they are the Eurpoean version of the Monitor 60's. Newegg has them for 129.99 with free shipping.
I want to get surrounds as well. Monitor 40 bookshelf speakers sell for around 199.99 plus shipping they are around $210ish. For $50 more I can get another set of the T90e's from Newegg. So should I get the Monitor 40's or spend an additional 50 for two more T90e's?

Yeah, unfortunately the Monitor series has been discontinued and replaced by the TSi series. The TSi's look a little different and have slightly different power handling, but all in all pretty much the same speaker. I have the 70's and love them, I also have the 40's for my surround and they do a very good job in that application. There a people here who use the 40's for front channels, due to limited space and other restrictions and they say only good things about them in that application as well. I am not familiar with the T90's, but from what I have read they are the Euro version of the Monitor 60's with only slightly different asthetics (no silver rim around the grille) As for getting 4 of them, you could use them as fronts and surrounds, but it depends on the size of the room you are trying to fill I guess. I would imagine the 40's would do just fine, since they do for me. Ultimately it is up to you, $50 bucks more for a better all around speaker doesn't sound too bad to me. I'm sure someone will be able to give you better advice, this is just my humble opinion.HT Rig

I would consider geting the 40's or even 30's (or Euro versions) and mounting them about 6-7 feet off the ground for a less directional and more enveloping surround effect.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. So in your opinion the T90e's tend to be more directional than the 40's correct? Currently I am planning on using these speakers as the start of a major upgrade.
The room these will be located in is around 16'2x17'3. Would the T90e's be to overpowering for this application?
Also worth noting is that I will be using a Sony receiver until I can upgrade to a Yamaha 7.1 that I am looking at. The model number on the Sony is STR-K7000."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I'm referring to the height of the T90e's creating a more directional sound, since the tweeters would be near ear-level, unless you raised them somehow.
Generally, it's good to get the surround channels up a few feet above ear level to create a more diffuse surround effect. This is by no means a hard and fast rule, but you will find that most people mount their surround speakers high on side or rear walls for this purpose.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. Here is how my room is laid out currently and it wouldnt change much if I got either set of speakers. The fireplace shows isnt my model, however everything else should be close. With this layout is the preference for the Monitor 40's or the T90e's? I will prob be purchasing the speakers on friday (to ensure Newegg doesnt sell out of the T90e's).
