Is print media dying?

Anyone still read the local daily newspaper? If so why? Can you get your local news faster online?

How about magazines?

I still read magazines (mostly in the bathroom), but the only time I'll buy a newspaper is if my local team wins a championship (so I can save the paper) or if I need to wrap something breakable. Much easier to read the news online, local and otherwise.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

We only get the Sunday paper, but we do get a couple magazines (Reader's Digest for the bathroom is a must...)

I still get the paper. Dallas has three pages of funnies!
And balancing the laptop in the crapper is kinda tricky.

I can see the day they die off. It's coming. It's a shame,
because the other news services online or on tv aren't
all that good at delivering news. Too much of the internet
stuff is of questionable quality. With papers, you had decades
of experience and proven trust. Or at least you had a pretty
good idea of who had a left or right wing bias. It's much
easier to skim through a newspaper for the good stuff, and to
skip the fluff. Half of tv news is damn fluff. And I really don't need
to see a guy standing next to city hall reading a news story
about city hall. Or standing in the rain to tell me it's raining.
Yes, I'm an old **** that doesn't like all this new fangled stuff.
    I've become my father:eek:

Well, ask yourself where the online news formats get their stories from?? Newspapers.
Without newspapers, you won't have reporters to go do investigative reporting.Online news just takes all the stories from around the globe and sticks it together under one online format. To me,they go hand in hand and need each other.

Whoa, there's a huge difference between getting your n ews "somewhere on the Internet" vs "somewhere RELIABLE on the Internet." I get my local news from boston.com... the Internet version of the Boston Globe, or UnionLeader.com, the Internet version of the Union Leader (NH newspaper). The same journalists who work in print media put their stories on teh web. Just because the medium is changing doesn't mean the information comes from a different place, it just means it's delivered in a different way.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Good way of putting it. I started feeling like that when my oldest reached teenager age.

But when the hard copy papers die, that's going to go also.
There's not enough ad revenue online to keep them going, unless
they sell an online subcription. The online paper is ok for the reasons
you state, but don't count on most of them surviving. Many will go to the
NY Times online for national, and local news will fall by the wayside.
So far, online news for most papers is an extra cost burden to
the business. A couple of papers will be the big pay to read services.
The rest will fold. It's all about dollars and cents.

Not all newspapers are hurting. Just the ones with AGENDAS! Maybe if they had stayed NEUTRAL, that wouldn't be the case.
Won't miss them if they tank.

No newspaper is neutral. Period. The only pub that ever came close was
U.S. news and world report during their heyday. With a newspaper,
you learn the writer's likes and dislikes, and factor it into their reporting.
And, yes, they are all hurting. Free stuff like Craigslist and pay services
like EBAY have taken away their prime $$$. Add to the fray real estate
brokers are cutting down on ads, and you have a real problem, New car ads
on the weekends are the only real big spenders right now. And they'll
    be scaling back.
