    WOW very 80's! :D

I remember when we had a specialized audio store here that they had some sorta speakers with ribbon tweeters.....
I often wondered just how good they were and if they'd hold up with age?
I don't recall the brand they were selling but they wern't Carver.
I remember say'in how goofy they looked at the time.(1988?)
Expensive as hell and like 6ft tall!!

Well, The Seller and I had emailed about pickup for a very long time but the seller stops responding my emails for the past few times. I tried to call him but the calls has not been returned. I guess it might have been sold locally to someone. I don't know if it's still available but I am interested to pick it up.

A Ribbon is a High Frequency Driver also known as as a tweeter (not the chain store that closed their doors). Ribbon in Amazing Platinum plays from 200Hz and above frequencies.

I actually think they play from 100 hz and up if I am not mistaken. I will have to look at my manual to be sure. I like mine but they are hard to drive big time. They do require a ton of power and a amplifier that is 1 ohm stable.

The Carver ribbons are full-range drivers, not tweeters.

Some models require a fair amount of power, but I don't think the original Amazing Loudspeaker required a stable into one ohm amp.

$499 for the Platinum Mk. IV edition of the Amazing is an insanely fair price.

The original ones did dip down to 1 ohm. It is definately an amp killer. WHen I got mine, I tired them on a Integra amp rated at 165 per, it shut it down and went into protect mode. Next up a carver cube same thing. My friends B&K amp same thing Sunfire sig II 600x2 No problem at all. A band QSC amp, no issues at all. When I asked around I was told it was because the original were not as stable as the plats, and can actually dip down to 1 ohm.

Could have been Martin Logan out of Lawrence Kansas. Another fine quality ribbon speaker. Still have a great product line but a little past my price point.
