So with the help of the forum and some searching, I am going to be able to get all of my inherited vintage gear repaired and refurbished! (Phase Linear 4000 preamp, and a HK Citation 16 amp.) Of course all of this refebushing is going to cost me most of my income tax check so I am going to have to wait to get my dream speakers (RTi A9 cherry). With that being said, for a better part of a year I will be using my Monitor 50's which will one day be strickly HT, I will also be using a sub to take away some bass stress. My question to you is how much can I push these speakers? The amp is rated at 150 watts min, while the speakers top out at 150 watts. Has anyone had expierience using these for two channel (ok 2.1) listening with such a powerful amp? I just want to know what to watch out for so I don't blow more stuff up. :D
My Gear

Phase Linear 4000 preamp
Cambridge Audio Azur 640c v.2 CD player
Dual 1219 Turntable
Two Harman Kardon Citation 16 amps
Monitor 50 speakers Bi-amped...
(dieing to upgrade to rti A9)
KLH Tremor Series sub (10 inch 125 watts)

I've seen speakers that are rated at a max of 200 watts being driven by dual 1.2kw amps, I even watched as the amps nearly peaked. So, I take it that its about how clean the power is, not so much about how much there is. But afterall, you control the volume.

Maybe someone smarter than I, with a more definite answer can chime in :)

Thanks, I guess I am just nervous about going to crazy with the volume. And the last time that amp was working functionally they were powering Bose 901's circa 1975. And I know a lot of people don't like them, but they could take a ton of power and the 901's are not a bad speaker for that time, and not even for today's standards. I can't wait to get Polks Rti A9 speakers.
